HiEver since upgrading to OS X 10.10 all mounted shares from the ready NAS over SMB randomly disconnect making working on the NAS a nightmare. I've since upgraded to OS X 10.10.1 and upgraded yesterday from ReadyNAS 6.2.0 to 6.2.2 but the problem still persists. After some reading I am going to try mounting the NAS shares using the CIFS protocol rather than SMB. I believe this forces OS X to use SMB v1 rather than a newer version.So:cifs://DNSname/sharenameRather than:smb://DNSname/sharename

There's an SMB Plus add-on for the NAS that also lets you tweak SMB settings.

Thanks for the info about the SMB Plus app. However I believe the problem lies more with OS X rather than the NAS software so I’m inclined to leave that unchanged.I’ve since read this Mac OS X hints post for defaulting the network stack to SMB1 by creating ~/Library/Preferences/nsmb.conf populated with:[default]smb_neg=smb1_onlyThe test I did on Friday connecting using cifs:// proved more stable. And so far today with this latest change the shares have not yet dropped.

Update:

Earlier, I tested mounting one NAS share (Archived_Jobs) using the Finder and another NAS share (Active_Jobs) using Terminal:

mkdir /Volumes/Active_Jobs
mount -t smbfs //<USERNAME>:<PASSWORD>@192.168.17.92/Active_Jobs /Volumes/Active_Jobs/

Later, looking at Console I see this:

This time I see that only the share mounted via the Finder (Archived_Jobs) was 'force unmount'. The share mounted via Terminal (Active_Jobs) is still working!

Could this be a clue?
I'm going to try mounting all shares from the Terminal and see if I get any randomly disconnect now.

hmmm. No.
I'd also mounted a different NAS share using Terminal on a different Mac running 10.10.1. Looking at it now I see this share has disconnected :(

Interesting.
While I got kicked off the NAS earlier on my iMac, I notice another Mac here running 10.10.1, which I mounted one of the NAS shares after performing the NAS update, did not disconnect this time and is still mounted.

NAS System Log shows when I mounted it:

Are there any more thoughts on this problem? It's driving me mad and essentially makes working from the NAS very problematic.

Hey- I know how maddening this is. Luckily a simple bash script can correct the issue.
This makes it really easy, just fill in your info and drop the files in the appropriate locations. http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=10274.msg

For what it's worth, I'm getting faster transfer speeds over afp (to a linux machine) than SMB so might be worth testing. Either way, this resolved the issue.
