ReadyNAs Duo v2 - does Factory Reset on every boot

Hello everyone,

I have a ReadyNAS Duo v2 that I bought used late last year. It worked flawlessly until recently when I had to change the disks. Long story short; I have 2 X 2TB WD20EFRX (Red) disks that were originally on a Duo v1, then on my Duo v2 and they worked perfectly. I then had to pull them out to test on another NAS (no worries, I had full backups of everything). Now that I put them back in my Duo v2, I decided to do a Factory Default (via the boot menu) according to the ReadyNAS Duo v2 and NV+ v2 Hardware Manual. The reset worked, although it was quite long.

Since then, every time I restart my NAS (i.e. change some settings that require a restart), my Duo v2 goes through a full factory reset and all my data and settings are deleted. I have been trying different things (only one disk, switching disks, restoring settings from a previous backup, boot menu for a normal restart etc) but every time I Restart the NAS, it does a full Factory Default.

I was able to load up the disks with data, do a Time Machine Backup etc but whenever I restart...all is lost.

Any ideas?

Thanks
TJJ

    Sent you a PM.

I can take a look at your system if you like.
  • Have owned Readynas for several years, with no issues. Just got an additional NV+ V2 which wants to factory reset on every boot. Having checked the forum it seems it may relate to one of the disks being locked?
Is there a way to resolve this without having to take each disk out and "unlock" it using a PC?

Just to be clear - I have now done a complete factory reset twice, which I thought would unlock the disks? Each time everything seems to work fine - (taking 24 hours for a re-sync) and the NAS works perfectly. If I then shut it down and restart - it again wants to do a factory reset.

    Thanks

Your disks are now unlocked. The disks are locked when you start a factory default with the secure erase option. If you abort the factory reset before the secure erase completes the disks are not unlocked.

One solution is to manually do another factory default with secure erase and not abort it.

I have manually unlocked your four disks, so I would advise against doing a secure erase this time.
