ReadyNAS NV+ seen in RAIDar but can't browse or enter setup
Hello,
I have a ReadyNAS NV+ with 4 drive bays. I am using it at present with two hard disks running in X-RAID.
Everything was working fine till yesterday.
Today I wanted to copy some data from my Windows 7 based computer. I started RAIDar. NAS was visible as 192.168.1.101. This was the address that I had assigned to it. When I clicked browse. I got an error message saying that -
Windows cannot access \\192.168.1.101
Error code that I am getting - 0x80070035
The network path was not found.
I tried on a Windows XP computer then and on this also I got a similar error saying \\192.168.1.101 No network provider accepted the given network path.
I connected the NAS directly to the Windows XP computer and once again RAIDar saw the NAS and on clicking browse I again got the same error.
I can't open frontview either. The setup button opens up the browser window as always but gives the error as 'unable to connect'
The lights on NAS are all as they should be and everything shows fine in RAIDar too. I have tried shutting down the NAS and rebooting it using the front power button but the same problem remains.
I have a backup of the data so I don't mind doing a factory reset if I have to but how do I do it if I can't even access the setup ?

- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserI do see this kind of issue occasionally, when the NAS is heavily loaded (A couple of rsync backup jobs for instance). Possibly the unit is resyncing, or maybe a disk is failing.
Is RAIDar showing any problems when you hover over a drive?
If there is nothing unusual there, then perhaps you can open a support ticket. If you want to try a factory default, you can do that via the front panel, you don't need RAIDar or Frontview Access. - Shivam1AspirantDisks are almost new and those listed in the tested hardware list. The NAS itself is not very old. I bought it to use as a file dlna server for my music system. There are no jobs lined up since I don't use it to backup my device. At present the disks are about 20% loaded with data. RAIDar shows the disks as doing fine.
Does doing a factory reset help in similar cases which you might have seen earlier ? How is the factory reset done from the front panel without using the frontview? - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredIs this a NV+ (v1 - silver chassis) or NV+ v2 (charcoal chassis)
You could use the boot menu: http://www.readynas.com/kb/faq/boot/how_do_i_use_the_boot_menu
You may wish to try an OS Re-install before resorting to doing a factory default. An OS Re-install leaves data intact whereas a factory default does not.
If you do do a factory default and the NAS is a v1 that is not running 4.1.7 or later, update the firmware to 4.1.8 or 4.1.10 beta and do another factory default. - Shivam1AspirantIt is NV+ (v1)
The firmware is 4.1.7. This gave me better transfer speeds than the newer firmwares. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredIf you wish to stay on 4.1.7 that's fine for now. The important thing is that on 4.1.7 (or later) if you do a factory default (wipes all data, settings, everything) you'll get 4k sector partition alignment which you'll want if you wish to upgrade to 2TB disks at some point.
- Shivam1AspirantI was using 2TB drives with the 4.1.7 firmware.
- Shivam1AspirantI am unable to do a OS-Reinstall or Factory default using the reset button. I tired the instructions many times and nothing happens. The NAS boots as always.
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredDid you follow this procedure?:
Power off NAS
Press and hold reset button
Power on NAS
Continue holding reset button till disk LEDs blink once (OS Re-install) or twice (factory default) - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserThere are several sets of instructions (http://www.readynas.com/kb/faq/boot/how_do_i_use_the_boot_menu) , you need to select the one suitable for your model (the Duo / NV / NV+ / X6/600 section in your case).
BTW, You can alternatively force a factory default by deleting the partitions on all the drives on your PC. Then the NAS thinks it is doing a new install. - Shivam1AspirantOn pressing the reset button as explained, no lamp lights up / blinks. When I press the power button after it, everything starts back in the same way as without pressing the reset button.
