Resync Stall
Hi folks
No doubt this topic discussed at length. I have read a few but given my limited knowledge about NAS, I would like someone to explain to me like I'm a 2 year old.
I have a ReadyNas Ultra 6 full of 4TB WD Reds. It's about 12 months old and about 70% full.
Today I noticed it was doing a resync. I did not start this resync, nor was it scheduled as far as I know.
The reason for my post is I think the resync has stalled. The screen says Resync C: 57.3% and hasn't moved for hours.
Nothing happens when I push the on/off button, nor can I access the admin page via my browser or the network shares.
So, if I wake up tomorrow and find the resync still at 57.3% ... what do I do?
Do I power down and hope for the best?

- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserDo you have a backup?
Have you tried looking at the status with RAIDar? - Jigar_soniAspirantcheck with latest RAIDar . if it is run. first check your harddisk health status
- RXLuminary@ddvideo:
It might be that one or more drives has failed. Did you receive any e-mail notifications about it?
I suggest that you check your drives one-at-a-time by performing an Extended test using the WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostics: http://support.wdc.com/product/download ... =612&sid=3 - StephenBGuru - Experienced User
If you do this, you will need to power down the NAS before removing the drives, (and be careful to reinsert them into the NAS when it is powered off).Ixa wrote: @ddvideo:

Label them by slot, and return them to the same slot. - ddvideoAspirantRAIDar has two icons flashing at the bottom that read 'Life Support Mode' and 'Background Task Active'.
Resync is still at 57.3%.

- ddvideoAspirantThanks for everyone's input.
I powered down the unit and then rebooted. All is fine!
Weird. - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserI would check disk health (SMART+ stats) on all disks. Also if you don't have a backup strategy in place for your NAS, you should put one in place.
- ddvideoAspirantI'd be interested to hear of any backup strategies for around 15TB of data. Short of investing another few grand to buy a back up NAS for a back up NAS, I don't know how I would do such a thing. That said, I do keep about 2 TB of the most important stuff (family media etc) backed up off location. The rest of the stuff on there is for my work as a videographer. I really should start deleting archives that are older than 3 years I suppose?
Where do I find the SMART+ stats? - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserSMART+ stats for 4.2.x firmware: log into frontview, click "status" on lower left, then "health". You'll see a SMART+ button next to each drive. When you click on it, the stats appear in a pop-up. Reallocated sector count, pending sector count, and ATA error count are the most useful pieces of information.
The cheapest option I know of for backup is to use Crashplan. Their backup service will back up your full NAS to their cloud servers at $60 per year. However, you do need a good internet connection (and no data cap), and installing crashplan on the NAS requires ssh and some comfort level with running linux commands.
USB backup is probably the second cheapest.
Personally I keep 3 copies of everything locally (backing up my main NAS to other NAS), and use crashplan to supplement (since it provides disaster recovery).
