derrick wrote: HI All,
i just got 4 1.5TB CC1G drives. . drives are not formatting properly. . RAIDER doesn't seem to pick up the drive after the 4 lights come on at 30s while doing a system reset. then after a while, it just chas C: formatting, and only formats to 2.1TB!
Have emailed and called seagate in the last 2 days, and still have not had an email with the firmware update. . just wondering how long you guys have had to wait for the email with firmware update? Also has anyone else had this problem of not being able to connect to the Readynas when trying to do a system reset to format the drives in XRAID?
thanks!
Derrick
I called Seagate on this past Tuesday (1/6). I waited on hold for about 20 minutes before I was able to talk to a representative. I gave him the part numbers, serial numbers, and firmwares off the labels on the drives. About 30-45 minutes later, I received an e-mail with a link and instructions as to how to obtain the firmware upgrade. Please note that to upgrade the firmware, you will need to connect the drives directly to a SATA port on your computer; you cannot upgrade the firmware when the drive is in the ReadyNAS or other type of external enclosure. Good luck! - iProb8Guide
no8080 wrote: Hi,
I recently purchase 5 of these drives and they came with firmware CC1G.
After building my Raid5 array (not a readyNAS) the write performance was fine, but the read performance was very poor, about 10Kb/s across my wireless network.
I am assuming it is the firmware issue. So I have just upgraded my firmware to CC1H from Marde's post on page 10. Many thanks for the link.
I have also logged a called with Seagate, hopefully they will supply the CC1J firmware for me as well. If they do I will post a link to it for others.
Thanks
Neil
When I called Seagate a few days ago, they sent me the CC1H firmware, not CC1J. If you are able to get your hands on CC1J updated, please let us know! Thanks. - darwin1AspirantI just received 2 of these drives from Newegg (2 more coming from Amazon... yes, I'm anal when it comes to hard drives). These have firmware revision SD19 printed on the labels.. I see that most of the links to the firmware updates aren't around anymore. Has anyone heard of this revision? Any issues with it or need to update it? I see that it seems to be at least a few revs higher than the C***.
I haven't put them in a computer to verify
Thanks - phrozenAspirant

SD1A should be the latest for you. Those are different P/Ns than the drives with CC1H... - darwin1Aspirant

yep, gotcha. I'll search back through this thread for a link to the download since it isn't on the newegg page anymore. Thanks. - no8080AspirantI have managed to test the CC1H firmware now properly, although it has improved read access for me it still does not fix the errors completely.
At least Winamp will now load the video file, but it skips and jumps all the time, whereas before on firmware CC1G Winamp and my Archos player refused to even load the video files.
So it would seem firmward CC1H is still full of bugs. I have not yet received a response from Seagate yet, if they do not respond by Monday I am returning my 5 drives for other models.
Neil - majayjayAspirantI just received three drives from Newegg, all are CC1J firmware. (FYI - I ordered these on 12/31/08). Is the consensus that this firmware version is good to go? I am still waiting for the readynas nv+ diskless to arrive.
Should I order another drive now to try to get all 4 drives the same firmware version? Originally I was planning on waiting until I needed the added storage but I am thinking there might be logic to getting them all now at the same version. - bollarAspirant

IMO, the reason to buy now is that they're incredibly inexpensive. If they ever definitively fix the problem, I think we'll see the prices shoot up. This drive is cheaper than the Seagate 1TB drive at our Frys now, and that's just not right... - no8080AspirantFinally got a reply from Seatgate, after chasing them up several times and ringing them.
There official response is
Hello Neil,
Seagate only supports these drives in a desktop environment. The nas box you have placed the drive in would have to be tested and supported by the company who made the box.
The firmware update addresses some cache clearing issues in a linux/Mac OS with this model of drive.
I would advise contacting support for your nas box, to establish if this drive can even work with their box. If it can't hopefully they will have suggestions on how to fix the issue you are seeing.
If they have not approved this drive with their box, it would be strongly recommended to go with a hard drive they have tested and confirmed will work.
Regards,
Bryce
Thats a f***ing disgrace. I am sending the drives back first thing Monday. Thats the last time I buy Seagate products.

That is a ridiculous response. I'd "move" the drives to my "linux desktop computer" and call back.
