Ultra 4 - very slow file copy
RAID 5 with 3 2TB Seagate disk.
When i copy a 6GB mkv file it copies at 15MB/second over a 1GB link!
If i enable Jumbo frames this jumps to 80MB/seconds - but my internet stops working from the PC - as the BT infinity hub does not support Jumbo frames..
Any thoughts?

- sleepy06405AspirantGet a small gigabit switch, they're cheap. Put your readynas and pc on that switch and then plug the new switch into your internet providers hub/switch/whatever. That might solve it. If not, well you've got a spare switch now.
- samukAspirantI have a netgear 1GB switch already...
the nas \ pc \ BT router are connected to this..
Jumbo frames enables fast copy by internet stops working.. - StephenBGuru - Experienced User
Internet stops working from your PC? Or from the NAS (or both)?.samuk wrote: I have a netgear 1GB switch already...

Though you should be seeing much faster speeds with jumbo frames off. Have you looked at the network statistics on the NAS? What switch model do you have? - samukAspirantinternet stops working on the PC..but logmein still works as i am able to remotly log in to the pc from work.
Have not checked the network stats on the nas - its a 1GB netgear switch (the blue business ones)
no erros present when i check the nas - do i need a plugin to check further in depth? - StephenBGuru - Experienced User
On the NAS, there is a network statistics pop-up that you can see (the control is next to the NIC speed on network interfaces).samuk wrote: internet stops working on the PC..but logmein still works as i am able to remotly log in to the pc from work.

If you have a managed switch, it has its own web page interface and more stats - which is why I asked the model number.
Another thing to try is a direct connect of the NAS to your PC (with jumbo frames off) - and see what speed you get that way. that requires a bit of set up. There is a brief description here: http://www.readynas.com/kb/faq/boot/how ... _pc_or_mac The main thing is that you need to temporarily change the IP address and subnet mask of the PC - for instance, 192.168.168.170 for the IP, and 255.255.255.0 for the subnet mask. Then put it back (probably to dhcp) when you are done. - samukAspirantHi,
Its not a managed Network switch. i have an option that says show errors next to the status of the Nic speed.
I have done a test.
Copied a large 6GB file from the NAS to my computers desktop - copied at 60 - 80MB/s
I then deleted the file on the nas and copies the file from my desktop to the nas 10 - 15MB/Sec - sleepy06405AspirantYour symptoms are very odd. You lose the ability to browse the internet but logme in still works? Logmein is basically doing the same thing as a www browser does. Do you have any vpn clients installed or anything that would have added additional phantom network adapters to windows?
- samukAspirantyes have a vpn client installed - but its not connected..
i think its the shrew client. - sleepy06405AspirantI'd uninstall the vpn client and anything else that adds a fake network adapter and test. It sounds like something is standing between your os and the network interface card.

I suspect logmein works because it is using a 1500 byte MTU, even if jumbo frames are on.sleepy06405 wrote: Your symptoms are very odd. I think trying the direct connect is the most useful next step - jumbo frames is not the main goal, raising the performance on the slow PC->NAS writes is.
Also, it would still be useful to know the switch model, and what the NAS network stats actually are. The best thing is to copy/paste the statistics before a write test, and then do it again afterwards.
