M4300 really hot

We have 3 M4300-24X, they all 3 are really hot to touch; One of them is not even used (its just connected) is this normal ?

I read this topic where i seen temperatures if 45c ! Currently they are in a stack; and the firmware version is 12.0.7.12; (boot B1.0.0.11); 

Suprisingly I noticed a difference in CPLD version;

Can I upgrade the last switch to 0X5 ? or are there newer versions ? I found this but it looks like its only for M4300-96X; 

We are currently having network issues; and seems to be related to these switches;  I will update the firmware to  12.0.11.16

Yes, please go ahead. Upgrade firmware and try again.

If you still see high temperature, could you please collect Tech-Support file to us? And we can debug further more.

Just curious, what is the physical set-up and mount installation of these three switches?

Installed in a pizza-oven-like environment above some fat server blade systems in a non A/C'ed rack?

room is about 21°C below are storage servers but those don't become 70C we also have 2 smallish clusters run at 45C.

even idle do these run 65C

really thinking its the model. im in touch with support now 🙂

For M4300-24X sample, we have adjusted fan policy for XSM4324CS at the beginning of this year, need upgrade CPLD to v06. I will share the CPLD file and upgrade method to you by Private message. Please follow the steps to upgrade CPLD, then check if can resolve your problem or not.

Sorry for the friendly takeover of this thread, but watching the community forums is also one measure of knowing about issues that might occur in infrastructure I maintain so this got me interested.

I also saw that for the M4300-96X there was a CPLD Update somewhat hidden in the downloads. Is the CPLD not part ofr regular firmware image?

Since we have older units that have likely even older CPLD releases I'm asking "how" are network administrators supposed to know about CPLD changes and how are we supposed to keep track of these components?

I totally agree, we have a rather small setup where I can go and look to these switches in particular; but larger centers might not have this option; 

Anyway; after contact with support I was given a firmware upgrade to the CPLD; to 0x6;  I bought a new switch (also MX4300-24X) and this one came with a CPLD version 0x6; Now I have version 0x4-0x6 :

1 : CPLD 0x6 (patched)

2 : CPLD 0x5 (unpatched)

I think there is something fishy with these earlier models ... considering there is still 15-16 degrees difference with the same patch level; (these are all in the same room that is AC'd to around 20-21 degrees)
