Good morning team...Hoping someone can help me like in the past.... I have (had) a ReadyNASRNDP6000 and today it failed..Yup christmas eve...Went downstairs to find that there was an electrical fire and traced it back to the NAS. Internal mainboard failed and caused a short...no fire but a lot of smoke and totaled the main board. So here is the question, i had a backup USB drive attached. I have tried to access the drive on other computers and no luck. Is there any tricks? I am sure hoping the team here can help...Lot of files I need to save on there!

Replacing just the main board is risky where there is such significant damage, as there could be secondary damage of the small daughterboard, SATA backplane, and/or power supply. You should also check the drives using the manufacturer's tools. When you do look for a replacement, be aware that the RNDP6000-100 and RNDP6000-200 have very different processors but are otherwise electrically identical. The earliest -100 also shipped with the older round-button caddies, but you can use your old ones, anyway. The CPU in the -100 can also be upgraded.
You are not limited to another similar model, either. Since you already upgraded to OS6, any ReadyNAS with at least 6 bays will accept your volume (assuming it's undamaged) and your old-style caddies will fit even the newest models (since many are sold without caddies).

How was it formatted?
Was the NAS running 4.2.x firmware? Or had you converted it to run 6.x firmware?

Re: External USB Backup-How to access it
it was updated to 6 firmware.
I might have found a solution to read the drive using R-Linux
Still reading the drive now...fingers crossed

Likely you formatted the drive as ext - which is not a format that Windows can read. R-linux is one tool that can.
If you get another NAS, then I suggest using NTFS formatting for your backups.

Re: External USB Backup-How to access it
So R-Linux worked! It restored almost all my files on the external USB drive.
Now, I am wondering if anyone has a main board that they want to sell?
