Ready NAS duo V2 does not access frontview
Hello!
I have a ReadyNAS Duo V2 and I haven't entered the setup for a long time.
The system is Windows 10 and the problem happens in all browsers
It is working and I have access to the files.
Now I need to enter the setup and I can't because the browsers don't accept the communication protocol.
NASnumberIP/admin
An error occurred during a connection to 192.168.1.208. The remote system uses an unsupported version of the security protocol.
Error code: SSL_ERROR_UNSUPPORTED_VERSION
This site may not support the TLS 1.2 protocol, the minimum version supported by Firefox.
Only the IP number
NASnumberIP/shares
incomplete sharing, only access to password change
Maybe updating the firmware will do it, but I can't install it without accessing the setup

Your screenshot appears to be from the original Duo (called a v1 here).
The original Duo (v1)
- runs 4.1.x firmware
- says "ReadyNAS Duo" on the front panel.
The Duo v2
- runs 5.3.x firmware
- says "ReadyNAS Duo v2" on the front panel.
Ignore other labels, they are more confusing than helpful.

See this thread:
If you skip to the end, you'll find a setting which allows FireFox to connect. One downside of doing that is that it enable TLS 1.0 generally (for all websites). If you run Windows, then Internet Explorer or Edge in IE mode will also work.
Editing virtual.conf (once you regain temporary access) is another option, instructions for that in the beginning of the thread.
The Duo v2 add-on won't work in your case (since you actually have a v1).

That only shows you something if you have configured one or more shares to allow HTTP access.

Re: Ready NAS duo V2 does not access frontview
Thank you for the informations
I read your post (2022-03-05 03:50 AM) detailing the procedure, I copied the script in notepad++ and saved it in a shared folder on the NAS, I downloaded SSL EnableRootSSH_1.0.bin, but I don't know how to use it to access the root from the NAS

You install it as an add-on in Frontview.
Then you can access the NAS by entering
ssh root@nas-ip-address
from the windows search bar.
That will open a command box. You will need to allow the connection the first time. Then enter the NAS admin IP password at the prompt.

Re: Ready NAS duo V2 does not access frontview
Wouldn't it be for local access, where I put the .bin file in the NAS shared folder on my PC?

You are looking at the wrong screen. Ready Remote hasn't worked for a very long time.
You want to open up Status and then Add-ons in the left pane menu, and then choose "add new" from the top.

Re: Ready NAS duo V2 does not access frontview
As you can see, I don't have that option. Maybe just updating the firmware, but I tried through frontview/update and it won't.

Re: Ready NAS duo V2 does not access frontview
You started by clicking on "system", and you should have clicked on "status".
Though it's possible that 4.2.x systems have a slightly different organization. I'll fire up my old NV+ and take a look.

Yes, it is a bit different. Don't attempt to register or check for updates on the remote tab, as that will give you the "error connecting to remote server" error. If you do get it, then just click ok.
Select
- System
- Update
From the left pane.
Then select Local at the top.
First you "Choose File", and select the .bin file
Next you click on "Upload and verify image".

Re: Ready NAS duo V2 does not access frontview
The way you put it, I managed to update with the .bin file
But in the windows search bar typing ssh root@NASipAddress opens the black prompt screen and closes without any action. So I opened the Promp as administrator and tried. It gave
C:\WINDOWS\system32>ssh root@192.168.1.208
ssh: connect to host port 22: Connection refused
C:\WINDOWS\system32>

Did you perhaps install it twice? It won't show up in the installed add-on list, and if you do install it a second time I believe it will actually un-install itself.

Re: Ready NAS duo V2 does not access frontview
Out of doubt, I installed it once again with success.
On NAS reboot confirms installation
But I still don't have access to the root of the server
C:\WINDOWS\system32>ssh root@192.168.1.208
ssh: connect to host port 22: Connection refused

Are you perhaps using the default admin password (netgear1)?
Also, I am wondering if you have internet security software running on the PC. If you do, try disabling it.

Re: Ready NAS duo V2 does not access frontview
I'm not using the default password
But since I can't log in, it doesn't ask for a password
I created new rule in Windows Firewall and
I released port 22 for all protocols
I enabled the ip 192.168.1.208
Disabled Avira Antivirus scan and turned off Malware Bites
second try: i disabled the firewall too
I still have access denied on port 22
C:\WINDOWS\system32>ssh root@192.168.1.208
ssh: connect to host port 22: Connection refused

I asked because some features are intentionally disabled if you are using the default password.

Maybe try rebooting the NAS, and see if that helps.
But this might be Avira - not sure what package you have, but they offer internet security software, and not just AntiVirus. Was it completely disabled? I don't think malwarebytes will get in the way - I have had the "premium trial" on some of my PCs, and was able to use ssh on them.
Most of these packages have logs, so you could also look at them for any signs that they are blocking the port.

Re: Ready NAS duo V2 does not access frontview
Hello Stephen!
I did everything in my power and I couldn't get to the root of the NAS to update
I'm a photographer and I use Duo to store my work (I'm the type that doesn't store it in the cloud), just because of the security of XRaid mode, I don't connect to it via the internet, I use it only as local storage.
So I'll settle for accessing Frontview via old Firefox (I'll save the installation for future needs)
If you have a suggestion for another type of safe file storage, you can suggest
Thanks for your prompt attention.

You could purchase a new NAS (Netgear stopped selling your model back in 2011).
You won't find a new ReadyNAS though, so you'd need to switch to a different vendor. Synology, or perhaps Asustor???

Hello!
It seems to me that this Synology DS418 is a good option at an affordable cost

I've never owned a synology, so can't really give a personal recommendation.
But this would be reasonable. You could also look at 2-bay models (getting larger disks to compensate).
