ReadyNAS 214 - All Drives Red!

I can't lose the data. I am in a X-Raid configuration.

I have 4 Toshiba 2TB drives install and have been working well. I started to run out of space and bought 4 Seagate IronWolf 8TB NAS Internal Hard Drive. I replaced a 2TB with a 8TB and waited for the replication to work. Took a week. At the end all the drives were RED and I could not access the system. I reached out to NetGear support, but I was outside of the warranty period, but they did tell me one 2TB drive was faulty. I wish they offer me the chance to by support, I would have.

My feeling is that the 8TB drive did replicate and then I lost a 2TB drive, so nothing is working. Is this correct assumption? Has anybody experience a situation like this? I think if I put the 2TB drive in that I pulled out for the 8TB drive would things start to work and I have access to the system to make a back up? Yes, I should have done a backup. In the past the disk replacement work so smoothly. I guess I got complacent.

Unfortunately, likely not.

Download the full log zip file from the logs page in the web ui.

If you need help understanding it, I'd be willing to take a look at it.  Put it into cloud storage (dropbox, google drive, etc) and send me a private message (PM) with a download link to the zip.  Make sure the link permissions are set so that anyone with the link can view.

You send a PM by clicking on the envelope icon in the upper right of the forum page.

I really appreciate your offer of help. I really do not understand all the log data. There are a lot of files. What specific files do you need to understand what the issue is and a possible solution?

I answered your PM.

Broadly, there are three general causes

  1. multiple disk failures resulting in a RAID array that can't be assembled
  2. an out-of-sync RAID array (often a result of a NAS crash)
  3. An issue with the BTRFS file system (which is installed on the RAID array), resulting in corrupted filesystem structures.

(1) is generally not recoverable.

(2) usually is recoverable, though there will be some amount of data loss.

(3) is sometimes recoverable, it depends on exactly what went wrong.

Thank you for your analysis! So what should be my next step?
