Netgear X8 R8500 USB 3.0 port not working solution (may apply to other models)
Like many others, I also had an isue with USB3.0 port not recognizing hard drives plugged in. It would see a thumb drive but not a 2TB disk on SATA-USB3 adapter. After some playing around I found that turning off UPnP option restores function to USB3.0 port.
- log into router
- advanced tab
- advanced setup sub tab
- UPnP - uncheck - apply
- router will reboot
Now I see the drive same as when it was on USB2.0 but much faster. Getting 40-50mbps copying a file to desktop from NAS drive.
Hope this helps.

Firmware V1.0.2.100_1.0.82
Hard drive has it's own power supply. Didn't work before. Now it does.
