Same problem here (I started the thread) WAN disconnects.
Cable company came out and tested and replaced the Modem.
2 Hours later I had a WAN disconnect. RMA # 2 will be here today.
I never had this problem with the R7000!

Re: R8500 Constant WAN Internet disconnects/connects!
Having a similar issue, although I lose both Wired and Wireless access. Sometimes the router successfully reconnects while in other instances, I have to reboot. I recently applied firmware V1.0.2.28_1.0.42 with hopes some of these issues would encounter more elapsed time between disconnects - no success. I have confirmed my cable modem is not the issue by working with my ISP during the disconnects. I am running QOS and UPnP.

Re: R8500 Constant WAN Internet disconnects/connects!
I am experiencing the same problem. The first time it happened, a reboot did nothing. I had to reset it and it worked flawlessly on the beta firmware for a few weeks. This past weekend, out of the blue, it occurred again. I rebooted 3 times and that did nothing. I then reset it but I couldn't get my computers to see it. I finally totally disconnected it and left it for about 30 minutes. I then plugged it back in and connected it as though it were new and it worked. My MTU has always been set to 1492. I do not have QOS enabled but do use UPNP. The only thing that has not worked since is my Readyshare external hard drives. It no longer sees them. Changing cables doesn't work and neither USB port works.

Re: R8500 Constant WAN Internet disconnects/connects!
Changing MTU was not good, right off the bat I could not connect to
certain secured sites. Set back to 1500 and all was OK again. Thats
NOT an answer.

What I don't understand is why it loses ethernet connection too. I have never had one to do that.

Re: R8500 Constant WAN Internet disconnects/connects!
I worked directly with my ISP to calculate the MTU rate and 1500 is where we landed. I tried lower rates, but no changes to the disconnect behaviors.
My calculation -
max packet size (ping test) + IP and ICMP headers = MTU size
1472+28 = 1500

Re: R8500 Constant WAN Internet disconnects/connects!
All I am beta testing a new firmware and the WAN disconnect issue seems to be resolved!
Also the radio scheduling issue. Running abot 2 days now no WAN disconnect. Before I would
have at least 1 every 4-5 hours.

Re: R8500 Constant WAN Internet disconnects/connects!
This is dated 2/12/2016. It is rock solid, NO WAN disconnects.
This is going on day 3 now. Before I was getting WAN disconnects withing 5 hr intervals.
They should release this version. Also has Mu-Mimo enabled.

Re: R8500 Constant WAN Internet disconnects/connects!
@supern0va3000 Did you try to use a different Ethernet cable?
What's the current firmware version loaded on your router? Is it 1.0.2.30?
The connection disconnects on wired or wireless?
How's the connection if you bypass the router?

Re: R8500 Constant WAN Internet disconnects/connects!
@ElaineM Thank you for replying to me
Answering your questions :
1- Yes I tried a different ethernet cable. In fact , After 1 week of frustration I bought a linksys router , and its working using the same yellow cable that did NOT work with Netgear.
2- The firmware that I was using is the latest non-beta (downloaded automatically from within the router) then I tried a beta one that was recommended in this very topic (firmware dated 25 december)
I found it here
https://community.netgear.com/t5/Nighthawk-WiFi-Routers/R8500-Beta-FW-V1-0-2-28/td-p/1022273
File name: R8500-V1.0.2.28_1.0.42.chk
using this beta firmware , the issue was improved : now I disconnect every 30-40 minutes instead of every 5 minutes. Still frustrating.
3- The connection disconnects on both wired and wireless. The router says it cannot detect the internet cable (yellow one). so all devices connected to the router by cable or wifi are disconnected.
4- If I connect this PC I am writing from , directly to the modem , internet is rock solid. Also connecting it to my new linksys router gives me rock solid connection.
For me it seems like the firmware has compatibilty issues with some modems and/or computer operating systems.
(Note : My netgear was near perfect for approx 3 months before this frustrating problem started , probably after updating to a faulty firmware)
My modem is Huawei HG8245T.
My PC operating system is Windows 10 64bit.
Thank you for your support.
I hope you get a permenant solution to this problem affecting many customers.

Re: R8500 Constant WAN Internet disconnects/connects!
Just upgraded to the R8500 from the R7000.
Seemed to be working fine last night, during setup, it prompted me to update the firmware (which I did) to V1.0.2.26_1.0.41
All day today, I've been having constant cutouts of internet connectivity. I think it may be an issue with my cable modem, as it looks like it is in the middle of rebooting everytime I lose connectivity but, is it in anyway possible that the router is causing this? Perhaps some kind of feedback to the modem?

Re: R8500 Constant WAN Internet disconnects/connects!
Bypass the router by directly connecting your pc to the modem and see if you'll experience drop outs.
After firmware update, I suggest that you factory reset the unit then reconfigure.
