Thank you for contacting Netgear Support.
Unfortunately our developers do not announce the release dates of upcoming firmware, so I am unable to supply you with that information.
You have indicated that there are problems with the router performance since you updated the firmware. In such a case, it is possible to downgrade the firmware, until a new version of the firmware is released that addresses the problems of the earlier version.
To downgrade your firmware, please follow these steps :
1) Go to this link to download the firmware version 1.0.9.10. (Current version is 1.0.9.12)
https://kb.netgear.com/000049003/R7000-Firmware-Version-1-0-9-10
->Save this file, and extract the zip into a folder, e.g. on your desktop
2) Connect an Ethernet cable to your router and a laptop / PC
3) Open a browser and go to this address : routerlogin.net
4) Enter the password that you chose during the router setup. If you did not change it, it will be ‘password’
5) When you see the menu, go to Advanced -> Administration -> Router Update
6) Click on Browse and choose the folder where you unpacked the zip file, then choose the .chk file.
7) Click on Upload and wait for the installation to complete.
I hope this will help you with the performance problem of your router.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Please note that if you prefer to communicate in Dutch just reply to this case in Dutch.
Have a great day,
Kind regards
Joeri

So, did you downgrade? Did it work better? Does 1.0.9.10 have Disney circle?

I didn't do much testing with 1.0.9.10 but have with 1.0.9.6. If you still have problems with .10 I would definitely recommend going back to .6.

Re: nighthawk R7000 firmware V1.0.9.12_1.2.23 update wifi problems
I have not had a chance to downgrade it yet, but I just feel uneasy to do so since the latest upgrade was supposed to patch the WPA2 encryption issue. Right now I disabled the 5GHz channel and let everything runs on 2.4GHz which seems to be a litte bit more stable.

Sure is. Netgear has not released a fix for it yet and I don't foresee it anytime soon. This will be the last Netgear I buy for sure.

Re: nighthawk R7000 firmware V1.0.9.12_1.2.23 update wifi problems
Chiming in - unfortunately I have a 1week old baby so this is completely unacceptable. Our baby minotor, nest protect, nest security cam's, window monitor, door monitors, etc.... all rely on our wireless connectivity.
Devices will randomly lose network access and cannot reconnect until I reboot the router. The wireless will work for 24 hours before I have to reboot again. For now I will downgrade to R7000-V1.0.9.10_1.2.21 - but please fix as this is unacceptable and at this point in time a safety failure for my newborn.

I think may be it's time to file a complain with the federal consumer protection agency since the company does nothing, not even showing the willing, to fix the issue.

Re: nighthawk R7000 firmware V1.0.9.12_1.2.23 update wifi problems
First, my apologies if I understand you wrong, but it seems to me you "speed crawing" people are misunderstaning something, regarding the WPA2 security status of the different firmwares released.
Because ALL of the currently released firmware versions have same WPA2 vulnerability(but is only a security problem, if you use the Netgear router(s) in bridge mode). So, if you don't need a specific feature only available in the latest v1.0.9.12_xxx version, there really isn't any benefit to staying with the latest release, especially not if it far from give you the speed you pay for. So what I am saying is, don't feel like you need to stick to very latest release because of WPA2 security concearns, because this version has same issue as all of the older versions! Your welcome! 😉
Read this info page about the WPA2 security issue = https://kb.netgear.com/000049498/Security-Advisory-for-WPA-2-Vulnerabilities-PSV-2017-2826-PSV-2017-...

Re: nighthawk R7000 firmware V1.0.9.12_1.2.23 update wifi problems
The weakness Vanhoef identified is in the WPA2 protocol's so-called "four-way handshake." That procedure determines whether a USER attempting to join a network and the access point offering the network have matching credentials. It's essentially an exchange that ensures the user knows the network password.
Therefore, it doesn't matter if the wireless router is in routed mode or bride mode. As long as you are using WPA2 encryption method, you are affected

I am not going to say Netgear is awesome but I will tell you they are working on it. I have running currently a newer firmware. If you go back in this thread you can see my details on it. It isn't perfect yet but it is much better. I am working with support and hopefully soon engineering on troubleshooting remaining issues. Yes they released a bad firmware and yes it has been almost 2 months but they aren't ignoring issue they are just slow it seems.

This is one problem I have never had with any version 1.0.9.6, 1.0.9.12 or newer beta. My R7000 and all devices on it have worked without fail for a month or more at a time. I am wondering if you or others that have reported this issue have some really bad behaving wi-fi device or maybe a really crowded wi-fi space? Anyone who has had issues like this have you tried running something like inSSIDer? Just to see what is going on channel wise? I found the Auto channel picker on R7000 (and most consumer Wi-Fi) to be pretty poor and everything seems to end up on channel 1.

Re: nighthawk R7000 firmware V1.0.9.12_1.2.23 update wifi problems
I reset mine to factory then updated to V1.0.9.12_1.2.23 and still had the problem. I then went to Administration - Backup Settings and restored from my latest backup. Everything is working with better speeds on WiFi. The range is still lacking but I'm satisfied for now. My Xfinity cable modem is set to bridge mode. I turned off Enable Smart Connect, AUTO channel selected, up to 600mbps on 2.4ghz band and 1300mbps on 5ghz band and WPA2-PSK [AES] security selection.

Re: nighthawk R7000 firmware V1.0.9.12_1.2.23 update wifi problems
For those of you wanting .12 for WPA2 KRACK fix it isn't in there. Look at this. It is Netgear official article and it says all versions of R7000 up to and including .12 are susceptible to issue. Don't install .12 for security reasons.

If you are having this issue downgrade your firmware to V1.0.9.6_1.2.19 and be sure once you do you factory reset your router. Until Netgear releases a new firmware that is the most stable. I have had zero problems once I downgraded.

I have the same problem and I lost the Open VPN for all clients.
I called support and they had no idea how to downgrade the router's firmware - thank you for posting this.
