Can't run firmware update on GSS116E - TFTP Timeout
Hello,
i have a GSS116E with firmware v1.0.0.0 and want to upgrade to the latest version v1.6.1.3.
Trying it through the Pro Safe Utility 2.7.8. it runs in an error "TFTP Timeout".
Trying it through the web configuration tool it runs in an error "wrong firmware file".
I tried the ways that are supposed here and here, but unfortunatelly it doesn't work.
What can i do?
Kind regards,
Thront Orus

Hi Thront,
Start about here -> https://community.netgear.com/t5/Smart-Plus-and-Smart-Pro-Managed/GSS116E-firmware-upgrade-fails-wit...
Using the current utility and firmware instead should be fine.

Re: Can't run firmware update on GSS116E - TFTP Timeout
Hello schumaku,
thank you for your reply!
I tried the guide you mentioned above. Unfortunatelly the problem is still existing.
I can't update the firmware, there's always the error message "wrong firmware file" during a try with the web config tool.
The Plus Utility instead shows tftp timeout error.
The netgear support site recommends to use the Plus Utility, because there will be an error if you update from firmware v1.0.0.0:
https://kb.netgear.com/000061781/GSS116E-Firmware-Version-1-6-1-3
But how can i update, if the Plus Utlility creates an error?

Re: Can't run firmware update on GSS116E - TFTP Timeout
A small update:
I managed to upgrade to v1.0.0.2: I connected the switch directly setting up a static ip adress like it's described here:
Now i was able to update via web browser to v1.0.0.2.
But then, i can't update to v1.6.3.1. The Plus Utility still shows tftp error.
An update via web browser was indeed uploading the file, then restarts the switch but after login into the web config tool, nothing was changed - there ist still firmware v1.0.0.2 running.

Re: Can't run firmware update on GSS116E - TFTP Timeout
We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused you. 😞
For now, I suggest you not to update the firmware of your GSS116E, why? Its because all of the GSS116E firmware versions have been removed from its support download page here as a precaution. Some issues were flagged and the NETGEAR Engineering Team are currently investigating it.

Re: Can't run firmware update on GSS116E - TFTP Timeout
@DaneAThank you for your reply.
If there are problems with GSS116E firmwares why are they still available on the netgear website without any warnings?
For example: https://kb.netgear.com/000061781/GSS116E-Firmware-Version-1-6-1-3
Is there a estimated time, when fixed firmwares will be available?

It has been requested already.

I'm afraid that there is no ETA on this.
That's what I'm hoping for as well.
