Steps to change the management VLAN for the GS108Tv3

Hi all,

Would anybody be so kind as to provide the steps to change the management VLAN from 1 to 1001?

The GS108Tv3 is connected to another switch that has tagged VLANs 1 and 1001 on port 1 and a workstation is connected to port 8.

The GS108Tv3 has VLANs configured for 1 and 1001, management ports set to 1 and 8. Whenever the management VLAN is set to 1001 the switch software complains "Error! Management access will be lost on MGMT VLAN configuration".

I've run out of ideas on how to set the management VLAN so that the switch can be managed remotely.

Thanks.

@duncan9322,

Welcome to the community! 🙂

By default, VLAN 1 is the Management VLAN and all ports are members of VLAN 1.  Since VLAN 1001 is already created and all ports are still members of VLAN 1, you need at least one port to be a member of VLAN 1001 (for example: port 8).  Then, you may now change the Management VLAN from VLAN 1 to VLAN 1001 via the web-GUI.  In order to manage the switch, you need to connect a PC/laptop directly to port 8 to be able to manage the switch.

That error pops up if there is no port on the switch with PVID the same as the VLAN ID you want to set. Once the Management VLAN ID is set, you should be able to access the web GUI of the switch from any port assigned to that VLAN even if it is on a different connected switch. Moreover that web GUI will be accessible from other VLANs if inter-VLAN routing has been setup. Make sure to change the IP address of the switch at the same time as the Management VLAN ID if you use a static IP address.

Re: Steps to change the management VLAN for the GS108Tv3

I hadn't set up the PVID on the workstations port. Many thanks for your help @DaneA and @Retired_Member.

Connect an untagged cable to g1 (my workstation)
Connect a workstation to g8
Factory Reset - press the reset button in until all the port light up

login with the default "password"
change the password
log in with the new password
System 🠊 Management 🠊 IP Configuration
set a static IP address. [Apply]
Switching 🠊 VLAN 🠊 Basic 🠊 VLAN Configuration
VLAN ID = 1001, VLAN Name = LAN [Add]
Switching 🠊 VLAN 🠊 Advanced 🠊 VLAN Membership
VLAN ID 1 remove untagged from g8 [Apply]
VLAN ID 1001 add untagged to g8 [Apply]
Switching 🠊 VLAN 🠊 Advanced 🠊 Port PVID Configuration
select g8, PVID = 1001. [Apply]
System 🠊 Management 🠊 IP Configuration
set Management VLAN ID = 1001 [Apply]

On the workstation
Remove the cable from g1
Switching 🠊 VLAN 🠊 Advanced 🠊 VLAN Membership
VLAN ID 1 add tagged to g1 [Apply]
VLAN ID 1001 add tagged to g1 [Apply]
Switching 🠊 VLAN 🠊 Advanced 🠊 Port PVID Configuration
select g8, PVID = 1001. [Apply]
Insert a VLAN tagged cable in g1

Kind regards,
Duncan
