The DynDNS client in the app store is ver 1.0, about 8 yrs old. Their website has much more recent versions available (ie. 3.8) but they download as a tar file with instructions for how to install using the command line. Problem is, where do I get a Command window on the NAS because the one in Windows 10 doesn't know what nonsense I'm typing in. How do I get from a .tar file on my desktop to an app that will install on my NS104 with OS 6 something?
(The redundant question is why do these things have to be so darn complicated? Windows 10 was supposed to make life easier.)
Thanks

Re: Want to Install New DynDNS Client on RN 104
The way to access the command line on the NAS is to enable ssh in services. You can then connect to the NAS from the Windows PC using either putty or WinSCP. I use putty myself. The username is "root" and the password is the same as your NAS admin password.
If you get yourself into trouble, Netgear has the right to deny support. I suggest having a full backup of the NAS. Alternatively if you have a scratch disk, you could power down the NAS and remove the drives, and then do a fresh install on the scratch disk. After you get your client running you can switch back to your real disks and replicate the test set up.
