GS105PE - PoE pass through not working until hard reset
I have my GS105PE for some time now and from day 1 it had this wierd PoE problem.
When I reboot the GS105PE, or the switch that is powering GS105PE reboots, I cant get PoE passthrough to work until I manually reset the config (hold the reset button for 10s or so). The PoE led just starts to blink.
When I do the reset the attached device always starts to work.
I tried to use the other port for the device, unpluging/pluging back the GS105PE, booting first without the device connected etc.
GS105PE gets power from Ubiquiti ES-24-250W.
The device connected to GS105PE is Ubiquiti UAP-Pro (takes 12W max.)
I always thought it is a FW issue.
Any thoughts on what to do?
Hi bugmenot2,
Since you have already tried two PSE switches already, it would be best that you open an online case with NETGEAR Support at anytime about your concern for further assistance.

Hi bugmenot2,
I do not have an Ubiquiti ES-24-250W switch to replicate your concern. Kindly answer the questions below:
a. What is the current firmware version of the GS105PE?
b. Have you tried using other PSE switch(es) other than the Ubiquiti ES-24-250W switch to isolate the problem?

Hi DaneA,
a. I am running V1.4.0.6. I updated last night.
b. I didnt try that before but I just tried with Dlink DES-1210-28P and same issue.
I also tried my other GS105PE but again same issue.
But I made progress I think. If I keep the GS105PE disconnected for 5mins, and then reconnect, the UAP-Pro also works.
Dont know if it was just luck, or GS105PE needs to discharge or something.
Still it is a flaw and I would like to resolve it as this would require me to run to each of my GS105PE switches and manually disconnect/connect them for PSE to work every time my main switch is updated/rebooted.
Thank you.

I'm having a similar issue. The netgear GS105PE is connected to a Cisco SG300-28PP, with is PoE+ (802.3at) compatible. The switch is correctly reporting that it detects the netgear as a class 4 device, which is -at, and allocates it the full 30 watts. However, the Netgear only initializes in -at mode about 1 time out of 20 or so, fairly randomly. Whether I reboot either switch, or just patch the netgear into a different port on the Cisco makes no difference. I tried this with several different GS105PE switches, and several different SG300 switches, including having the netgear be the only device plugged into the switch. Here is the power status on the Cisco switch:
switch7edc95#show power inline gi1 Port Powered Device State Status Priority Class -------- -------------------- ---------------- ------------ -------- --------- gi1 Auto On low class4 Time range: Power limit (for port power-limit mode): 30.0 W Inrush Test: Enable Legacy Mode: Disable Port Status: Port is on - valid capacitor/resistor detected Overload Counter: 0 Short Counter: 0 Denied Counter: 0 Absent Counter: 7 Invalid Signature Counter: 0
On the Netgear, the PoE LED on the PD port 5 is orange, not green (thus, -af, and not -at) and fails to power up the AP, plugged into port 1, is needed (PoE light on port 1 flashes, indicating PoE error). The rare time I can get the Netgear to detect -at successfully, the AP powers up perfectly.
Please advise.
EDIT: The firmware on the Netgears is 1.4.0.9 (latest as of this post)

Small addition - on port 5, here is the behavior when plugging in the cable form a PoE switch:
1) light turns orange instantly
2) After about 200 ms, the light turns green
3) After another 500-700 ms, the light turns back to orange.
Hope this helps.

Hi Xelas,
Welcome to the community! :)
Have you tried to perform a factory reset on the GS105PE switch then check if same problem will occur? If yes and still same problem, I suggest you to open an online case with NETGEAR Support at anytime. Kindly state your concerns for further assistance.
