CIFS Default Access
Why is it that files saved from Windows 7 to CIFS shares on my ReadyNAS NV+ (RAIDiator 4.1.8 ) only have read access when the Default Access is set to Read/write in Frontview? This is causing problems for SickBeard and Headphones running on my NAS. Any help welcome.

- de_niroGuideHave you made changes on "Advanced CIFS Permission" of shares?there are a few options to define new files or folders permission,I think you might need check it first.
If you want to add writable permisson to existing files, just go into "Shares->Share listing->Advanced options->mark "Set ownership and permission for existing files and folders in this share to the above settings. This option is useful in cases where you are changing security levels and need to workaround file access problems" and "Grant rename and delete privileges to non-owner of files"->apply. - kalo1AspirantThanks for the reply. Have done all that you suggest but new files are still created without write access, except to the folder owner. Could this be a Security Mode issue? I am using Share security as this is my home network, would changing to User security be the solution?

You are saying that you clicked on "Automatically set permissions on new files and folders.", with "Everyone rights" set to read/write for both folders and files - and that you are still not getting write access?kalo wrote: Thanks for the reply. - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserThere are settings for permissions on both the CIFS and Advanced Options Tabs.
I am thinking you executed the procedure on Advanced Options (Set ownership and permission for existing file...) but that you might have missed the settings on the CIFS tab (Automatically set permissions on new files and folders...). That would explain your symptoms.
Note also the setting "Do not allow ACL changes to be more restrictive than this." - kalo1AspirantSorry for the delay in responding. The settings you refer to do not exist on my CIFS Tab, I am presuming that this is because I am in the simplest security mode. According to the ReadyNAS User Guide "Each user accesses the shares on the device as a common guest user and has the same
read/write privilege as other users." in Share security mode. It looks like common guest users create files in read only mode which is counter intuitive to a share setting which defaults to Read/write. Is this by design or is it a bug? The upshot is that my ReadyNAS becomes unresponsive as programs try repeatedly to delete files to which they have only read access.
