Disk Full - Cannot delete SnapShots

I have about 50% disk usage, but have reached 95% full with snapshots. I have attempted to delete about half of the snapshots from each share, but have not regained any "%" of the disk space. I also have the NAS shared for TimeMachine, and have removed everything except 250G of that, with no change to the "%" full.

Firmware 6.5.1

Thank you for any help

Re: Disk Full - Cannot delete SnapShots

To reclaim space you generally have to delete the oldest snapshots first.  Is that what you did?

Re: Disk Full - Cannot delete SnapShots

Also, if you go to System > Volumes, click on the Settings wheel for the volume and go down to Settings there is a Snapshot Pruning item. You can adjust the volume usage threshold at which the oldest automatic snapshots are pruned so that the volume doesn't get as full from snapshots.

This was not what I had initally done, but I went back deleted more files - no change!

I found this setting and adjusted this as well, and no change here either.

Sometimes it can take a little while for the space to be reclaimed.

A balance sometimes helps, but it will struggle with a 95% full volume.

Re: Disk Full - Cannot delete SnapShots

Update, ...

Over the weekend, I began pulling files from the unit, (specifically complete share volume contents) and then deleteing the share - this has not changed the "full" status in any amount. I have removed in excess of 1TB (not including the snapshot pruning and deletion), and it still shows 694G available, with about one half in snapshots, and one half in data.

Re: Disk Full - Cannot delete SnapShots

I did run a balance, defrag, and scrub, Friday before starting the removal of files - there was a slight change in available space - 687G to 694G, ....

Maybe try the balance then?

You could send in your logs if you like (see the Sending Logs link in my sig)

I do urge you to send the logs to @mdgm-ntgr

I hear you.  But now you've removed more, and running all the files through the btrfs allocator might help.  A balance will do that.

Don't run any more volume maintenance till you have backed up what you can.

Re: Disk Full - Cannot delete SnapShots

Got them this time.

Your snapshots go back to April/May. Presumably you must have deleted a lot of data since then. You may need to delete more snapshots.

Re: Disk Full - Cannot delete SnapShots

I deleted snapshots dated 2015, but nothing has changed the "Full" status of the disk

Re: Disk Full - Cannot delete SnapShots

If the files you have deleted were from shares that are still present were deleted after the oldest snapshot still present was created then you still need to delete more snapshots if you want to free up the space.

Re: Disk Full - Cannot delete SnapShots

I have archived several of the shares, and delete the complete share, and there is still no change in the disk full status

Re: Disk Full - Cannot delete SnapShots

If you are comfortable with SSH you can get a rough idea of how much each share uses in current data using du and you can compare the snapshots using snapper to see what's changed.
