How to set up simple user security on Windows10 / readyNAS Duo V2?

I have modified old "Shares" so they have user controlled access, but from windows these are now read-only.

I have a home network and used to be happy that anyone - basically me - could acces the netork drives. But now more people use the network - even the TV can access! So, via RADIATOR I added a couple of users and modified existing "Shares" to have no access boxes ticked except read/write for one of the new users. Also removed tick by "Allow Anonymous access". I also added a similar new share.

On windows PC I re-mapped drive letters as they were previously and signed on to the NAS with the new "Credentials". I can read the mapped drives (=share) but cannot write. The new share is fine and I can add new files.

I also used a Raspberry Pi to test and it can read and write to all the shares just fine.

So I guess I have missed a step or done something wrong in windows 10?

Assume I know very little!

Thanks!

PS am I right thinking that, though I can set each share to different user access, PC can onlu have one user "credential" for readynas so all shares to be accessed must have to have the same user included.

Windows does only allow one credential at a time.  There is a trick that is sometimes useful - you can use one credential with the NAS hostname, and a different credential with the NAS IP address.

What firmware are you running?  Did you try resetting the file permissions in one of the shares that doesn't work?

I assume you mean changeing something in "prperties" on themapped network drive im windows? Could you tell me exactly what I should do - I am somewhat challenged by microsoft internals 🙂

Thank you for getting back to me.

I was thinking you'd do it from the NAS dashboard - page 35 here: https://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/READYNAS ARM-PLATFORM (DUO V2, NV+ V2)/RAIDiator 5.3 SW ...

Typo should be 5.3.13  😞

Went into radiator clicked o "reset permissions" on one of the shares - Still no joy.

I disconected and re-mapped drive and still could not add a file. 😞

And you are specifying a user with read/write access when you map the drive?

All may be well!!!!

I think I accidentally reset file permissions on a different share.

That solved the problem for other shares and did not require re-mapping disk.

THANK YOU SO MUCH Stephen!

You hit the nail on the head with the reset file permissions

It is a bit late and I am tired and made a few mistakes there, so extra thanks for bearing with me 🙂
