NEED HELP ACCESSING NV+v2

Hi all,
before I start explaining the issues I am having, Id like to say that I am not extremely knowledgeable with computer hardware, or networking terms... Ill do my best explaining what has happened.

((I am primarily a OSX user, but I have a PC as well..)

I bought my NV +v2 as a way to quickly share files amongst my girlfriend and I, but also for storage space. I successfully set up the unit, and we both were able to access it over our LAN - all was good except - I was never able to use the ftp capability... I couldnt figure out exactly what I had to set in the dashboard, and similarly what info i needed to plug in to cyberduck to remotely access the NV when I was at school from my OSX.

about a month ago I changed ISP's because Rogers was ripping us off... before this, my router IP was 192.168.0.1... after we changed service, I needed to buy a new router, and (i guess) consequently the router IP changed - its now 192.168.2.1... This i think is where my current problem began...
When I would open RaidAir, it would detect my NV, and tell me that its IP address was 192.168.0.24.... I think what I am about to attempt to explain is that my NV was setup as a static IP address and not a dynamic one?!?... but when I would press setup in RaidAir, it would go into a web browser and not find anything under that IP... I logged on to my router, and saw that a client with the same mac address was connected, but under the IP address of 192.168.2.12....

I followed the steps on this page http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=63545&p=356170#p356170
and created a new network via ethernet cable from my macbook to the NV, and set the IP address of this new network hosted by my macbook to be the same as my old router - 192.168.0.1.... I cant remember if I used the IP address RaidAir was telling me, or the IP address I found in my router, but I was successfully able to connect to the dashboard at this point.!!!! The steps on the attached link ended at that point, and I wasnt sure if, or how to change the NV's IP address to dynamic dhcp (i dont even know if thats what i had to do)... stupidly, I clicked in the IP address info, and changed the gateway IP from 192.168.0.1, to 192.168.2.1 (my new router) thinking that now it would be able to connect to my new router.

I logged out, plugged the ethernet cable from the NV back to the router, and I was not able to locate the unit in RaidAir anymore. neither the ip address raidair WAS telling me, or the ip address found under my router (the NV is still listed there right now) would connect to anything in my browser.... ALSO i cant locate the unit in RAIDAIR when i plug the ethernet cable back into my macbook....
Maybe I need to reset the unit - I dont know the exact procedure to do this, ALSO there is alot of data on the first volume of the unit that I absolutely cannot loose!

I think I have royally screwed myself here. Please help... and please keep in my that my knowledge of terms etc. is very minimal.

thank you a billion times in advance!!!!

Re: NEED HELP ACCESSING NV+v2

-If you used the default configuration (and did not explicitly set the NV+ to a static address) then you have a dynamic address.

-However, when you manually set the gateway address to 192.168.2.1, you were assigning a static address. You should also have changed the IP address itself to 192.168.2.x.

The safest thing to do now is an OS reinstall. The procedure is here: http://www.readynas.com/kb/faq/boot/how ... _boot_menu, in the section labeled "Ultra 4 / Ultra 4 Plus / Pro 4 / NV+ v2" The OS reinstall will not hurt your data. It will fix up your IP address configuration, and will also reset the admin password back to the default ("password" for the v2).

Also, you really should put a backup strategy in place for the NAS. If you have data that you "can't afford to lose" then you need to invest the time and money it takes to back it up. There are several ways RAID arrays can fail.

Re: NEED HELP ACCESSING NV+v2

thank you extremely!! Everything is back to how it was....
Can you refer me to a link that I can read to help me set up an ftp system.... like an ftp for dummies link haha?
I just need to know:
1. What to do in the dashboard
2. What to do in my router (if anything), and
3. What would I need to add as the server in my OSX ftp application (cyberduck)?

thanks for all the further help you may be able to give me ! 🙂

Re: NEED HELP ACCESSING NV+v2

There is some info here: viewtopic.php?f=23&t=58380&hilit=+ftp+setup

Though my NAS don't run dashboard (v1 and pro models) so I can't help much there.
