Network Password issues
Hi Guys,
I am relatively Tech un-savy, so please forgive my lack of knowledge. My issue is this. I have a ReadyNas nv+ 4425RND that has functioned well until yesterday. I have moved office and moving was no problem, however yesterday I relocated the NAS and it's IP address changed. I have unmapped the shares in My computer as the mapping did not seem to work. I can see the share files if I click on the ReadyNas icon in My Network, so for all intents and purposes everything is working correctly. However I cannot access the shares for the following reasons:
*The NAS has been asking for login details every time I try to access a share,
*FIrstly a Windows security Password window appears with the following text "Enter your passowrd to connect to: (IP address of ReadyNAs) Below this is a box for username and password, and under that is Domain:Chriss-PC (Name of my computer). i have the option to Remember my credentials and then there is a red corss with Specified network password is not correct. I would add a screen dump but I can't figure how to do this.
*If I type in admin for user and my NAS password, it doesn't except it then takes me to another window which also says "Enter Network Password" Enter your password to connect to:ROOMNAS. It has the WIndows Admin user icon with CHRISS-PC\Admin and then a box for me to enter my password.
The thing that I can't understand is that my windows login/admin password has not changed, I have never been asked for a User name/password before I moved teh ReadyNas and teh User name and password I am using for the NAS has been set and reset after the move to confirm it is correct. This also seems to be a windows issue more than a ReadyNAS issue. I am runing Windows 7 Preofessional 64bit with an Intel core i7-2600cpu. My workgoup is set within the NAS and on all computers correctly-nothing here has changed. THe only thing that has changed is that I moved the physical location of the NAS and as a result it obtained a new IP address.
Help please as I cannot access my Shares!
:x  :(

- eddiemunster3AspirantWoops should have re-read the post before I posted it!
- HERBIEOAspirantIt should be the same username and password you log on to windows with.
- eddiemunster3AspirantIt should but this doen't seem to be working. I just tried changing the Username/password for my windows logon but it still doesn't accept it.
- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserCan you access the NAS through your web browser (Frontview)?
- eddiemunster3AspirantYes I can access the NAS through Frontview but not all the time. Sometimes it won't let me access it, however the big drama is I cannot access my shares either through frontview or my mapping the share to my computer. It constantly asks for the password and user name which I have not changed and is correctly entered.
- StephenBGuru - Experienced User-what firmware are you running on the NAS?
-what is the security mode?
Also, have you looked in the Windows Credential settings to see if there is anything there for the NAS? - eddiemunster3AspirantHi Guys,
I've been battling this problem for a while, playing with Windows & UAC settings and others. Here's the latest. I have restored the NAS to factory default so Username and Password are restored. I can get into front view, I can change settings in their. I currently have the security mode set to user with 3 users setup. I still have problems when clicking on my NAS in the network section of windows IE go to Start, Computer, Network, Click on NAS. What I get is a window with Windows security at the top and then text below saying "Enter Network Passowrd. Enter your password to connect to:ROOMNAS (Name of my NAS)." So i would think that is the logon details for the NAS which has been reset to default. I have tried the password, but where I think the problem is is with Windows 7 Security. I have played with my Admin account (Windows 7), I have changed the UAC, I have tried working through the Credential Manager in windows. I know this is a windows problem not a ReadyNAS issue but wondering if anyone has had a similar problem?? - KhaoticAspirantSame issue.
I have recently upgraded hard drives and did a complete Factory Reset.
Every share I setup is asking for a password even though NO password has been set.
I'm on Firmware 4.1.10 with a ReadyNAS NV+
My security setting is set to SHARE and the workgroup is correct for my Windows settings.
From what i can see from my notes, the settings are identical to the settings I had before upgrading.
My plan was to install the new hard drives, create the shares, and then manually copy my files back in.
2 of 3 normally isn't bad - but this is a total fail. I can't access the new shares because it keeps asking for a password that isn't set.
YES, I tried the admin password. NO, that did not work. - aciriloAspirantthis is the same issue i'm having.
I can't reach it from my workstation but i can from other computers.
The access on the share is based on IP ... i can reach it when i enable HTTP access..
frustrating... this will be the last NETGEAR our company buys. - marsanoAspirantI have spent the last week on this issue. My laptop runs Windows 7 Pro x64. Netgear ReadyNAS NV+ runs Raidiator 4.1.12. Was getting the "Enter Network Password" prompt on only 1 of my 8 shares. Here's what fixed it. I went to my Shares listing and entered a password for the troublesome share, then pressed "Apply". Verified that Windows Explorer still could not access files on the share. Then I went back to Shares listing and deleted the password for the troublesome share, pressed "Apply". Voila. Now Explorer sees all files on the share. Clearly this is a bug in Raidiator (my opinion).

You are a genius. This worked for me.
- set a password on the share and apply
- try to access it with no luck
- remove the password on the share and apply
- access the share no problem
Thank you for your insight and more importantly for taking the time to share it.
Also, enabling HTTPS on the share works as well but that does not solve the real issue which your solution does.
