Hello all!
Since a few weeks my ReadyNAS 102 with two WD Red 4 TB inside accesses permanently the HDDs.
- It doesn't matter if another PC is running or not.
- It is configured as an encrypted X-RAID with level one and ~2TB are free
- It sounds like a Virus scanner which is scanning the whole disc all the time (yes - the OOTB-Virus scanner is enabled but this doesn't happen until a few weeks)
- Firmware is 6.9.0
- Health-status of HHDs is good (SMART)
Does anybody else have the same issue or an idea how to solve this or to find the reason?
Kind regards ErreUno

Hello Stephen and THX for your response!
Are you saying that the disks never spin down? Or that the disk activity LED is blinking?
Both. And you can hear a permanent read-access on the HDDs
You could try disabling the Antivirus software temporarily. If that doesn't help, try disconnecting the ethernet cable for a while and see if the activity subsides.
Good hint - I'll try this asap.
Do you have any apps installed on the NAS? If so which ones?
There are no apps installed.
Regards EE

Re: Permanent access to HDDs
Hello Stephen!
It seems to be the integrated Virusscanner. After I've deactivated this feature - the HDD accesses has gone.
No the question is:
- The virusscanner haven't done this is the past (older version) - why now?
- Is there a chance to configure it?
- Do I need it or is it not worth the effort? (for sure I have a scanner on each PC)
Kind regards EE

I just leave it off on my systems (so I am depending on the PC AV scanners).
I don't have any apps that are downloading files directly to the NAS, and access is restricted to my immediate family. So all paths to putting files on the NAS run through PCs that are under my control.
