RN104 - Windows 8.1
I have my RN104 on wired network with every PC in our business. We currently have 2 Windows 8 PC's, 15-20 Windows 7 PC's that all connect without issue.
I recently built a new 8.1 Pro x64 machine that cannot connect to the server via explorer or map the network drive directly.
I have searched and tried most of the available "fixes" available online without any luck including the credentials management, registry modification, private network, home network, etc.
I can currently ping the server and can connect via the web admin login.
My login to win 8.1 is a Microsoft account that has a user name that does not exist on the server but I always try to connect with different credentials. 8.1 machine is a member of "Workgroup" domain by default.
I did update the server to the newest version 6.1.9 firmware today with no change. RAIDar sees the RN104 and when trying to "BROWSE" I receive the error code "The operation being requested was not performed because the user has not been authenticated"
Any help is appreciated!!!

Just something else to try to test connectivity (and might lead to an answer):
From the 8.1 machine, open a file explorer window. Find the "Map Network Drive" option. (On my machine, it's "Alt-C", "N". Assuming you NAS is named "NAS-RN104", enter "\\NAS-RN104\data" as the folder, and select "connect using different credentials." For the different credentials, type "NAS-RN104\admin" as the username and the password for the web admin account used on the NAS. (If that doesn't work, try just "admin" as the username... I forget which way works, and it probably depends on if the NAS is on a domain or not.)

I am definitely thinking it is credential related somehow but have triple checked the credential manager and everything seems right.

I meant that you should access the hidden "data" share... (As that share is hidden from frontview editing, the permissions should be in a known state.)

Yes. The fact that it's not working like that is.. odd. Is there anything showing up in the windows8.1 event log that might be helpful? Can the Win8.1 machine map a drive to another (win7 or win8) workstation?

Well, that's re-assuring. At least we know it's not a readyNAS specific problem. (I know it's not much, but it helps to narrow things down... the solution won't be on the NAS... it'll be on the Win81 machine.)

I think the next thing I'd try would be to, on the Win8.1 machine, create a new share. Then try to access that share from a different machine. Again, it's not an answer, but a step in trying to find an answer. (There's something about this problem that's nagging me... something I'm forgetting...)

Also, just for testing, completely turn off any firewall running on the Win8.1 machine. Turn it off for both local and internet just to be sure. It probably won't matter, but I've seen some firewalls doing strange things.
Another random idea:
(from win8.1 machine) Control Panel -> Programs and Features -> Turn Windows features on or off ... Look in there any make sure it's set up properly. There's a specific entry for "SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support" that might have impact.

Sounds nuts, but if you share something from the Win8.1 machine, can you access that same share from that same machine using a UNC path? Assuming the machine is named "Win81Box", if you share "AShare", can you access "\\Win81Box\AShare"?

I am still unable to share anything from the Win8.1 box.
I also just installed office and am unable to setup my email account with similar errors.
I am beginning to wonder if its just a bad install?

If you are trying to enable CIFS support for Windows 8.1, why not just install SMB Plus add-on and lower it from within the ReadyNAS? Clients should then just negotiate down to that version.

I just tried that with no luck. My best guess is that this is an OS issue strictly since I cannot access any shares on any device at the moment.

2 days and a million search results later issue came from Network driver. Uninstalled then reinstalled driver from CD and I can now access shares. Thanks for all your help!!!!!!!!
