ReadyNAS 102 6.4.0 USB_HDD Trouble: External storage device disconnected.

Since installing the most recent firmware updates (6.7.5)  I've been getting emails from ReadyNAS saying external storage device disconnected.  This leads to backups failing because they're being backed up to this USB drive that is being disconnected in error.  I think the problem was introduced in a recent firmware update because I had not ever received that message before doing the last two firmware updates.

Hello philtymps,

I have some questions to ask, I have summarized them below:

  • Does it give the same error when you use another USB port on the NAS?
  • When you get this error message, do you have to re-plug the USB and it will continue the backup?
  • What is the file system format of the USB drive?
  • Can you please send the Backup Job logs of the job where this USB drive is involved?

Regards,

Jenn,

Prior to receiving your response I simply reformatted the external drive using NTFS and it seemed to be working for the last week or so.  Today however I noticed one of the jobs failed again with can't connect to destination.  I'm using the same USB Back Top port as the other port is used for my UPS.  I have the backup logs but don't know how to get them to you.

"PM" means private message (via the envelope link in the top right of the forum).  She didn't meant for you to post it publically.

Let me know if you want me to redact the link above.

Re: ReadyNAS 102 6.4.0 USB_HDD Trouble: External storage device disconnected.

Hello philtymps,

It appears the errors are the same that the NAS stops detecting the USB disk. May I suggest you try another USB port on the NAS? Also, is this USB disk using a USB cable? Maybe you can try using another USB cable to for problem isolation.

Is there a way to also observe the UPS if that looses connectivity to the NAS' USB port too?

Regards,
