ReadyNAS Duo RND2110 v2 "System is starting up..." blue light blinking
I have a ReadyNAS Duo RND2110 v2 with a single Seagate Barracuda 1TB drive in it. When I start the NAS, RAIDar briefly shows:
Model: ReadyNAS Duo
Name: ESMENAS
Status: Healthy
Firmware: 4.1.14
IP Address: 192.168.1.136
Drives: One healthy green/blue icon (the left hand one)
After a minute or two, RAIDar says it could not find any storage on my network. Even if I re-scan it shows nothing.
If I remove the disk and try RAIDar again, it sees the NAS but no disks (obvs!). It's like the system boots up ok, but then something happens that stops it from functioning properly.
I can ping it always, but can never web browse to it.
I tried an OS re-install, but now when the NAS boots up, the fan just stays on (previously it would calm down). Perhaps I didn't release the reset button at the correct time for an OS reinstall??
Can anyone help me please?
Thanks!

You actually have a v1 (sparc-based NAS). A v2 would run 5.3.x firmware. There's a longer explanation on the labeling here: http://www.rnasguide.com/2012/01/09/how-to-tell-whether-i-have-a-duo-v1-or-duo-v2-or-nv-v1-or-nv-v2/
Do you have a backup of the data? If not, I suggest trying r-linux for windows (connecting the disk to the PC either via sata or a USB adapter).

Thanks very much for helping StephenB.
Having read the guide you provided, I agree with you, that I have a v1, even though there's a sticker on the underside of the unit that says v2!
I powered it on today and it's been on for 4 hours or so, and the situation has changed. The fan is now much more normal sounding (quieter) and the power LED is kind of pulsating, rather then blinking. I also see a steady green blinking LED for disk 1. When I launch RAIDar, I see this now:
Still the admin page button doesn't work (browser says page cannot be displayed or similar) When I hover my mouse pointer over the icon for disk 1, a pop up says "Channel 1: ST<hard drive model number> 7GB", where as it's supposed to be 100GB in capacity.
I have a back up some of the data, but not all, so I would really like to recover it if at all possible. Do you recommend cracking on with trying r-Linux for Windows? I have a Windows laptop and a Mac laptop that I can use, so if there's one that is easier to use/works better, then I'd be glad to know.
Cheers again,
Olly

Yes, I'd try that next. r-linux isn't available for mac, so you'll need to use the windows laptop.
You can also run seatools on the pc to check the disk health (sticking with the non-destructive tests).

Hi StephenB,
The enclosure arrived and I connected the installed HDD to an old Windows 7 laptop. Windows didn't detect the disk (it didn't appear in My Computer). I downloaded Seatools, which seemed to partially recognise that it was a USB attached disk, but it couldn't determine the model number or serial number. It passed a disk self test but failed both the short and long generic tests. After that each time I disconnected / re-connected the drive (trying different USB ports on the laptop, then Windows kept saying 'USB device was not detected' and in Windows device manager, it appeared as a generic device with an exclamation mark next to it. I wondered if using a newer laptop might help, so I am now using a Windows 10 machine.
With Windows 10, at first there was no difference - Windows still didn't detect the drive, and device manager showed me that the device wasn't installed properly, but eventually, it installed the driver, and it appeared in device manager with no exclamation mark. It still doesn't appear in My Computer though, so I can't simply double click on it, and start exploring files (that would be too easy right?!) So I ran Seatools again, and similalrly, it passes the disk self test, but fails both short and long generic tests.

I started a scan of the disk, but it looks pretty bad and it's onl been running for 15 mins or so. Am I right in saying that it thinks it's going to take 1 month and 12 days to comeplete the scan?!
Cheers

It looks to me like the disk has failed, so I don't think you'll be able to get any data off of it.
