ReadyNAS no device found after upgrade firmware

Hi everybody,

Need help to resolve this issue. Within admin interface, i upgrade firmware (6.6.1) to the last version submitted. The NAS is now offline. Try to reboot, no effect. Cannot connect to admin interface, cannot access by the network. On the cloud, my readyNAS is offline. Cannot use  Raidar to access to the logs.

I'm afraid to lost data.

Please someone can i help me ...

Thanks

One good option is to use paid support (my.netgear.com)

You could also try a USB recovery: https://kb.netgear.com/29952/How-do-I-use-the-USB-Recovery-Tool-on-my-ReadyNAS-OS-6-storage-system

I also suggested USB recovery, which is something you do yourself.

FWIW I don't work for Netgear.  But if I were facing data loss, I'd contact them even if there was a cost.

Re: ReadyNAS no device found after upgrade firmware

Can I make UBS recovery with only one bay ? My original setting is RAID 1 and i'd like to protect data on the 2nd Bay ?

Yes you can (though the NAS will mark the volume as degraded as soon as you remove the disk).  Once it's booted, you can add back the second drive.  The system will need to reformat it to add it to the array.

If you download a linux "live" boot disk, you can also boot up a PC under linux, connect a NAS disk to the PC and extract the data that way.  Then the data is safe, so you can even do a factory reset.

OK, I remove the disk then replace it (i have no solution to save data with my laptop PC (windows 10).. perhaps you can help me ?). My hands were shaking and within boot menu i selected OS reinstall. The firmware is now 6.7.5 and the Nas rebuild as you mentioned the 2nd drive...

My data seems to be safe ...

I glad you are up again.  Is the volume syncing?

Does your laptop have an ethernet jack? (Most do of course, but some don't)

A USB backup drive is popular backup choice.  You can either connect it to the NAS or back it up over your wired network to your laptop. Either way use a disk format that your PC can read (NTFS).

Some of the larger USB drives (generally 5 TB and up) use SMR technology - they work better with windows than linux.  Maybe use smaller drives.

If you connect the drive to your laptop, there are some free packages you can use on the PC to do the backup.  FreeFileSync is one.

I have backup NAS myself.

Yes the volume is syncing (6 hours left). No Ethernet on my laptop... USB backup will be the best option for me I guess.

Thanks for all Stephen
