Replacement NV+ unit received.... what next?
Hi,
Today i received my replacement NV+ (v1) as my original units' PSU died and took some of the logic board with it.
i have swapped the 1GB memory from my old unit into the new one but am yet to turn on the device.
Do i simply put my drives into the new unit, turn it on and hope for the best or will i need to configure the unit first? I have 4 2TB drives in XRAID.
I have a backup config of my old device so should i first try to import this before i try anything else?
Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere but i couldn't find anything specific to this.
thanks,
C

Re: Replacement NV+ unit received.... what next?
Since both units are sparc-based, the disks are compatible.
So you can install the drives with the new NAS powered down, and it should simply start. One small nuance - the firmware in the NAS flash might be mismatched with the OS installed on the drives. You should try to fix this. If you have a spare drive, you can plug it in first, and then install the proper firmware. Then power down, remove the spare, and insert the new drives. Another approach is to over-install your firmware after you are up and running.
You shouldn't need your config file, though it is good to have (as is a backup).
The non-stock memory is another complication, as it might not work properly in the new unit. I'd personally shift the drives first (leaving the memory intact), and then try the memory after you confirm the unit is running ok.

Thanks StephenB, sounds remarkably simple!
I will try this later tonight and let you know how i get on.
Thanks for the tip on the memory too, its certainly better to be safe then sorry, so i will go back to the original memory first and all being well i will look to upgrade again afterwards.

Re: Replacement NV+ unit received.... what next?
UPDATE
I installed the drives in the same order as they had previously been in my old unit and switched on the NAS.
After a lengthy file system check (approximately 2 hours) the unit booted up and all my shares and files are back!
I updated the firmware to the latest version and then rebooted.
I then shutdown the device, installed my 1GB memory stick and then restarted it.
Everything is okay and back to normal 😄
