netgear nas 214 boot stuck 99 percent

NAS 214 fails to boot beyond 99%.  Tried reset a few times no resolution.  Referred to below

Solved: ReadyNAS 314 stuck at booting 99% - NETGEAR Communities

And manual pages 74 -75 and still stuck.

ReadyNAS OS 6 Desktop Storage Systems (netgear.com)

I note previous community support reached out to Netgear Support for resolution. My research suggests this is not an uncommon problem. It would be nice to have a solution to this posted in the community and or access to submit a Netgear Support ticket. Unfortunately my complimentary support ran out in April 2021.

I suspect I will have to reset to factory default and loss all my data. Not satisfactory solution.

Thank you.

Hello

@StephenB

Thank you for responding. I appreciate you taking the time to do so.

The lastest firmware update resulted with a corrupt 214 NAS. My two other NAS 214's updated without issue.

I have implemented a factory reset.

Thank you.

Re: netgear nas 214 boot stuck 99 percent

You have posted your message in the section of this community given over to Nighthawk WiFi Routers. (This is easily done, given Netgear's complicated community structure.)

Many questions apply to different types of device, so there may be useful responses here, but there isn't much in common between a router and your ReadyNAS, so you might get more help, and find earlier questions and answers specific to your device, in the appropriate section for your hardware. That's probably here:

ReadyNAS Network Storage: Official NETGEAR Community

I will ask the Netgear moderator to move your message.

In the meantime you could visit the support pages:

Support | NETGEAR

Feed in your model number and check the documentation for your hardware. Look at the label on the device for the model number.

You may have done this already. I can't tell from your message.

I mention it because Netgear stopped supplying printed manuals and CD versions some years ago and people sometimes miss the downloads.

Thank you,  michaelkenward I appreciate you taking the time to respond.

I agree with you support navigation is an extreme challenge.

Hopefully, a solution can be found although I suspect its a factory reset.

Re: netgear nas 214 boot stuck 99 percent

The level of understanding and willingness to help people with problems seems to be higher over in the NAS area. Perhaps because NAS stores are not cheap boxes sold to consumers who think that when they spend $100 on a device and they can demand lifetime support from a team of dedicated Netgear specialist technicians.

Unfortunately, failure to fully boot can have lots of different causes.

Can you clarify more precisely what you did when you "tried reset"? Did you mean a factory default, an OS reinstall, or perhaps something else???

Also, what firmware are you running?

Re: netgear nas 214 boot stuck 99 percent

Typically, it's not the update per se that causes issues, it's the reset that it requires.  For many, it's the only reset in months.  Problems can be present that are detected at power-on and may have little effect (at least initially) on a running system.  I usually reset my NAS once a month or so, making sure it's after completion of an update to my backups.  I got in the habit of doing that back when I had an NV with an option to check the file system on the next reboot (something I think OS6 always does).  Unfortunately, I started doing so only after the first time I lost a volume.  I've never lost an OS6 volume due to a reset.  I did have one go read-only because of a BTRFS error that made me have to factory default, but that didn't take a reset to detect.  So, am I doing it more often than necessary?  Maybe.  But it doesn't really take any time for me to do so, and I feel better knowing that if a problem does happen, I'm more in control of when it will happen.

Re: netgear nas 214 boot stuck 99 percent

Hello @Sandshark

I have two NAS 214 that updated without issue. I assumed the update would be OK for the third 214 NAS,

I checked the disks. All OK. Not that I thought disks were the issue. I think I tried a reset prior to the factory reset. I really did not want to spend three days rebuilding the NAS. In the end regrettably, that is what I had to do. I should have accepted that in the beginning. I wasted two days trying to find a solution. Sadly researched recommendations proved to be a complete failure.

Have a fabulous weekend and thank you for taking the time to submit your solution. Much appreciated.
