This reply will solve TWO Issues pertaining to Mapping a Windows Network Drive to your USB Connected Drive on your Netgear Router. This posting applies to ALL Netgear Routers utilizing Shared USB Windows/MAC File Sharing, including all current models. Please pay strict attention to the word SOLVE !!! THIS is a technical workaround for very LAZY and Outdated programming on the part of Netgear Management. It is NOT a Windows problem. It appears to be a Windows issue simply because Microsoft has chosen to disable (FINALLY) the 30 Year Old SMBv1 which was used in PRE Windows NT Days (Circa 1988). Windows 10 relies solely on SMBv3.x and above which is far superior to SMBv1 which Netgear has chosen to use. Please note well, ENABLING SMBv1 WILL Open your Windows 10 or below OS to the WANNACRY Ransomware. You will be crying after doing this BUT your ReadyShare WILL Indeed Function. Netgear utilizes ANCIENT technology and software practices simply because all development is performed in tents in India by "experts" utilizing state-of-the-art development protocols that were deemed inadequate in 1992 !!! That is NOT an exaggeration. So be forewarned, this is NOT a good idea, but the only way you can connect to your $500 Netgear R9000 Router using Microsoft Windows Network Drive Mapping is to enable SMBv1 on your Windows 10 or below Operating System. (The Anniversary Update DISABLED SMBv1 as a security precaution in Q1/Q2 2017) If your network mapping seems to have mysteriously broke in the past few weeks then you know your SMBv1 has been disabled. You can easily ENABLE it and continue to use Netgear's OUTDATED software which relies on SMBv1 to connect to the USB Device attached to your Netgear Router. FIRSTLY, The Download Location for the ReadyShareConnect.exe sharepoint is: http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/ReadyShareConnect.exe You don't need it but there are dozens of posts looking for this information. If you download it save it to C:\Windows\System32 Folder for ease of use. It does nothing more than the NET USE command line. To ENABLE SMBv1 in Windows 10 simply Click on PROGRAMS AND FEATURES in Control Panel. On the left side panel click on TURN WINDOWS FEATURES ON AND OFF. Navigate down the Popup List Box to SMB 1.0/CIFS FILE SHARING SUPPORT and Place a CHECKMARK in the Box next to it. OK your selection and then RESTART your Computer. When you log back in you will then be able to connect to your Netgear ReadyShare USB Devices connected to your router. BUT, every Ransomware scammer and hacker will also be able to readily access your SMB (Server Message Block) protocol messages. In other words you are wide open to ransomware attack so start your crying now as you will need it !!! Start calling Netgear NOW and demanding that they provide 2017 type programming performed by AMERICANS on AMERICAN SOIL !!! Now you will understand why I am so ticked off that Netgear is so incompentant to sell a $500 Router with such outdated and totally dangerous software connectivity. Yes the newest R9000Nighthawk is around $500 with taxes and shipping, and UTILIZES SMBv1 protocol !!!!Solved543KViews13likes10Commentsincessant amber light blinking for ethernet port
I have recently switched ISP, transitioning from DSL to cable. I bought a Netgear CM400 modem and a Netgear N300 Wireless-N Router WNR2000-100NAS. I just received the modem yesterday and got it and the router set up and connected to my new cable service. I've run speed tests and am getting what the ISP states as the speed of my service; actually, the speed is a little higher than the ISP-stated speed. So, the modem has five LED lights on front. The power, upstream, downstream, and internet lights remain steady green during all my time using the new modem so far. The ethernet light, on the other hand, blinks amber ALL the time, even at night when my computer is off. I've been searching for some info on this and found some past discussions in this community that say this is normal. They have also said the color of the ethernet light is either amber or green, depending on the speed of hardware connected to it, as I understand the comments. I would think the light, whether amber or green, would sometimes settle down and remain steady instead of constantly blinking. But, apparently, that is not so. So, from a technical standpoint, this is apparently normal. I just find it a annoying. For a modem to be designed to behave this way seems odd. If the light blinked during actual internet activity in my network, that would make sense. The blinking should have some meaning, it should indicate certain activity. The endless blinking is meaningless and not what I want to see in a network device. If I had known about this, I might have bought a different router.Solved115KViews1like3Commentsuse a hotspot as the internet source to the router
I want to use an Android phone hotspot as the internet connection TO the router, and then will connect via ethernet cable, a weather station. The weather station needs to be hard wired to a router, thus it cannot go directly to the hotspot. The hotspot needs to be connected as the intrenet source (like DSL or cable) Is this possible?SolvedGetting the right router for fiber optic cable
We just moved into a new house in rural America. The ISP is a coop which ran fiber optic cable to our house. They said we don't need a modem due to being fiber optic and said we need to supply a router. Beyond that they don't really know much more. I would like to get a Nighthawk 1900 Wifi Router but don't know how to tell if it will be compatible, and the ISP doesn't either. Any advice or things specific things to look for would be appreciated.Solved99KViews0likes8CommentsGS105, GS205, GS305 or GS605?
Hi guys, I need a GigaBit switch for my home network, maybe I will insert the switch into the wall (in a sort of box). I see the site suggests me to buy GS205 or GS605, but what is the difference of between these models? And why shouldn't I buy GS105 or GS305?Solved99KViews0likes4CommentsWARNING Vulnerability ID: NON-2015-0211 on my Netgear Router WNR2000v3 Please help
I scanned my MacBook with the avast antivirus and the network Scan a vulnerability which I was searching online to fix additional solution yet this is what I found on PCWorld website At first glance, sending requests to this SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol) service requires an authenticated session. However, Adkins discovered that sending HTTP requests with a blank form and a “SOAPAction” header is enough to extract sensitive information from a vulnerable device. The information that can be extracted includes the administrator password; the name and access keys for the wireless networks configured on the device, and details about the device including its model, serial number and firmware version. Adkins confirmed that Netgear WNDR3700v4, WNDR3700v4, WNR2200 and WNR2500 devices are vulnerable. However, because of the flaw’s location, other devices, including WNDR3800, WNDRMAC, WPN824N and WNDR4700, might also be affected, he said. This was posted on the 16 February 2015 and today is October 22 2015 and I was just wondering if this was going to be fixed or not because I search everywhere no one has A answer to fix This I need to know please I don't want my information to be on the Hacker world. i like my netgear router but i am afraid to use it now I need to know if I need to change router Brands Thanks By the way this is the link of 1 of the few posts that talks about this vulnerability NG WNR2000v3 Vulnerability NON-2015-0211SolvedHow to get access to 192.168.1.1?

I can see virtually no difference in specs between GS108/208/608 switches. Is any of these actually a superior product, or does the vendor just charge twice as much for adding 'Business class' to the branding? This purchase is for home office use, with some high-volume internal traffic plus the usual cable-bandwidth-limited external video downloads, etc. Thanks!Solved71KViews0likes9CommentsBefore you buy the orbi system - what you need to know performance and feature wise
hi guys i have started this post to clear up some misconceptions about the orbi system and where its aimed and what it can do first what it can do provide overall better wifi coverage by having the router and satellite located in different parts of the house and connected together by a dedicated 1733M 5 gig backbone provide a single wireless transmission that covers both the 2.4 gig and 5 gig spectrum with a max sync rate of 2.4 gig - 400M 5 gig - 867M provide parental control features via netgear's online parental control system provide vpn via openvpn provide Ddns service provide IPv6 provide traffic monitoring provide basic firewall functionality currently what it cant do provide 3 gig wifi , its max connection rate is 867M provide guess wifi access , this doesnt seem to be a consideration warrented to be implemented in the orbi provide a mesh type topology network , at this stage the orbi is a star topology . Mesh topology is planned for future fw releases but TBA provide an ethernet connection for its backhaul , again this is slated for future fw release but also TBA provide comprehensive routing and firewall features , the orbi does have limited functionality but not to the extent as a top of the line stand alone router have provide a wall mount , the design of the orbi is to be free standing and part of the furniture the best you can hope for is to build a shelf for it to stand on provide soho / commercial grade access point control , where the orbi router is placed in AP mode its is just that a pure wireless access point , all router functionality will then be handled by an upstream router or gateway provide the ability to have separate ssid names for the 2 bands as this would remove the functionality of its band steering and ap steering --------------------------------- As far as i can tell the orbi system is aimed squarely at those that just want great wireless coverage and that it does quite well , it is lacking in features when compared to main line routers but that's because its aimed at those that dont really care , i see this as the plug and play set who prefer to set and forget and have no great intrest in administration or control but as stated at the start just want better wifi and thats what the orbi system does and does it better than even the latest and greatest stand alone wireless router will do including the latest 2156M wave 2 routers The orbi system is great at what it does and thats provide great wifi coverage everywhere in a normal house , i suggest anyone consider buying the orbi system ensure they have a good read of what it can and cant do as well as read reviews and blogs and make sure the capabilities of the orbi system match your expectations as its certainly not worth buying something and then expecting major changes to suit your needs just my 2 cents but if it help someone make the right decision about weather to purchase the orbi system or not im glad i can help peteSolved
