TLDR: With Orbi, my 5Ghz capable devices are "forced" to connect to 2.4 Ghz most of the time, slowing down speed. Tested against 3 different routers and my 5Ghz capable can connect to 5Ghz network all the time. I got the 3-pack Orbi from Costco and after numerous testing, ALL my devices are connecting to 2.4 Ghz MOST of the TIME rather than 5 Ghz. This slows down the transfer speed from 800 Mbps to a paltry 145 Mbps. Unfortunately, since the Orbi does not allow separate SSID for 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz, I cannot "force" my device to connect only to 5Ghz to get better speed. This means that I have a $499 router system that mostly allow only 2.4 Ghz. I previously have a Time Capsule and setup 2 separate SSID: - devices capable of 5Ghz will ONLY connect to 5Ghz SSID (MacBook, iPhone, etc.) - devices capable of ONLY 2.4 Ghz will connect to 2.4Ghz SSID (thermostate, etc.) There was no changes on the setup or placement of my devices when I replace the Time Capsule with the Orbi: 1). Orbi is in the middle of apartment, same location as my Time Capsule 2). Laptops are in the same area as before (desk, room 1, etc.) 3). Other devices are in the same area as before (printer, camera, thermostat, etc.). 4). No new devices that can interference with Wifi signal The ONLY changes is the Orbi Router and Satellite and now all my 5Ghz capable devices are connecting to 2.4 Ghz with Orbi. I powered down Orbi, put my Time Capsule back and BAM!! I got 5Ghz connection again. For a separate testing, I bought the following: - Netgear Nighthawk AC1900 - ASUS RTC3200 Setup both to have separate SSID and BAM! 5Ghz devices can connect to ONLY 5Ghz network. I hope Orbi will change this in the new upgrade. Otherwise, I have no need for a $499 router that "force" 5Ghz devices to connect to 2.4 Ghz network.Nighthawk M5 MR5100-1Z1MES useless In Middle East
Good day NETGEAR COMMUNITY ! , First of all, We are in big trouble because a lot of people In Middle East They didn't get the new update : Model: MR5100-1Z1MES Firmware Version : NTGX55_12.04.12.01 GUI Version: MR5100-1Z1MES_04.02.197.00 HW Version: 1.1 _________________________________________________________________ Most of people stuck on version : 10.12.13.0 & 10.28.02.00 Which is very old version and you cannot change band option's from the router ! You shall to change It from 192.168.1.1 ! Also, when you tried to check for updates It's give you UP TO DATE ! _________________________________________________________________ Is it difficult for a large and leading company in the field of routers like Netgear to Push an OTA update 12.04.12.01 to all owners of the MR5100-1Z1MES model ? By the way .... The vendor not cooperate at all In Middle EastSolvedWPA2 - KRACK / Vulnerability
Hi Netgear, I think this is really important and should be monitored closely and all the wifi users should ask the vendors to monitor an patch this. Looks like that WPA2 is about to be cracked and the details / exploit will be released soon. the US CERT released this note: " US-CERT has become aware of several key management vulnerabilities in the 4-way handshake of the Wi-Fi Protected Access II (WPA2) security protocol. The impact of exploiting these vulnerabilities includes decryption, packet replay, TCP connection hijacking, HTTP content injection, and others. Note that as protocol-level issues, most or all correct implementations of the standard will be affected. The CERT/CC and the reporting researcher KU Leuven, will be publicly disclosing these vulnerabilities on 16 October 2017." Looks like that Aruba , Ubiquiti, Microtik, and other vendors are adressing the issue on software updates. Can you please let me and all the users know if NETGEAR is currently looking on this ? Are you going to update your software to fix all the reported CVEs ? List of CVEs: CWE-323 CVE-2017-13077 CVE-2017-13078 CVE-2017-13079 CVE-2017-13080 CVE-2017-13081 CVE-2017-13082 CVE-2017-13083 CVE-2017-13084 CVE-2017-13085 CVE-2017-13086 CVE-2017-13087 More details: https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2017/10/severe-flaw-in-wpa2-protocol-leaves-wi-fi-traffic-open-to-eavesdropping/SolvedALL Netgear USB Drive Mapping Issues ReadyShareConnect.exe ReadyShare Windows10 Map Network Drive
This reply will solve TWO Issues pertaining to Mapping a Windows Network Drive to your USB Connected Drive on your Netgear Router. This posting applies to ALL Netgear Routers utilizing Shared USB Windows/MAC File Sharing, including all current models. Please pay strict attention to the word SOLVE !!! THIS is a technical workaround for very LAZY and Outdated programming on the part of Netgear Management. It is NOT a Windows problem. It appears to be a Windows issue simply because Microsoft has chosen to disable (FINALLY) the 30 Year Old SMBv1 which was used in PRE Windows NT Days (Circa 1988). Windows 10 relies solely on SMBv3.x and above which is far superior to SMBv1 which Netgear has chosen to use. Please note well, ENABLING SMBv1 WILL Open your Windows 10 or below OS to the WANNACRY Ransomware. You will be crying after doing this BUT your ReadyShare WILL Indeed Function. Netgear utilizes ANCIENT technology and software practices simply because all development is performed in tents in India by "experts" utilizing state-of-the-art development protocols that were deemed inadequate in 1992 !!! That is NOT an exaggeration. So be forewarned, this is NOT a good idea, but the only way you can connect to your $500 Netgear R9000 Router using Microsoft Windows Network Drive Mapping is to enable SMBv1 on your Windows 10 or below Operating System. (The Anniversary Update DISABLED SMBv1 as a security precaution in Q1/Q2 2017) If your network mapping seems to have mysteriously broke in the past few weeks then you know your SMBv1 has been disabled. You can easily ENABLE it and continue to use Netgear's OUTDATED software which relies on SMBv1 to connect to the USB Device attached to your Netgear Router. FIRSTLY, The Download Location for the ReadyShareConnect.exe sharepoint is: http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/ReadyShareConnect.exe You don't need it but there are dozens of posts looking for this information. If you download it save it to C:\Windows\System32 Folder for ease of use. It does nothing more than the NET USE command line. To ENABLE SMBv1 in Windows 10 simply Click on PROGRAMS AND FEATURES in Control Panel. On the left side panel click on TURN WINDOWS FEATURES ON AND OFF. Navigate down the Popup List Box to SMB 1.0/CIFS FILE SHARING SUPPORT and Place a CHECKMARK in the Box next to it. OK your selection and then RESTART your Computer. When you log back in you will then be able to connect to your Netgear ReadyShare USB Devices connected to your router. BUT, every Ransomware scammer and hacker will also be able to readily access your SMB (Server Message Block) protocol messages. In other words you are wide open to ransomware attack so start your crying now as you will need it !!! Start calling Netgear NOW and demanding that they provide 2017 type programming performed by AMERICANS on AMERICAN SOIL !!! Now you will understand why I am so ticked off that Netgear is so incompentant to sell a $500 Router with such outdated and totally dangerous software connectivity. Yes the newest R9000Nighthawk is around $500 with taxes and shipping, and UTILIZES SMBv1 protocol !!!!Solved543KViews13likes10CommentsAnyone else want a refund for the Orbi that Netgear is slowly bricking via Forced Firmware?
So in the past day since updating to the latest firmware, my devices are losing connectivity 2-5 times per hour. What in the world did you guys do? Send out firmware to basically brick our $400 router? I have spent too much time wasted trying to get my Orbi router fixed in the past few days, than all my other routers in the last 15 years combined. I would just like a refund. I feel like you guys are purposefully making this router worse with each and every firmware update. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one that wants a refund for this router, that was once the best to being a pure joke. Even your app seems to be glitchy as ever lately. Can we all get a refund please?Very disapointed with Orbi parental controls
Just set up Orbi wifi. As stated above I cannot believe how bad the parental controls are. It's like a router from 10 years ago, not able to set time schedules for individual users and devices. I'm very sad I didn't due enough research. Not good enough in a device this expensive.Complaint Terrible Warrentee and Customer Service
I have a WNDR3400v3 that has a warrentee till Aug/2017 NETGEAR Warrentee Sucks, to get a simple RMA for a device under warrentee you need to Spend $49.00 to troubleshoot a $89.00 dollar Router that is Bravo Seirra Heres the troubleshoot part,, Plug it in turn on power switch and it does not come on any more its DEAD plug same power into my other Netgear router and wow it come on and works, so its not the power source, any questions? I have been a telecomm engineer for 20+ years, I'll just take the thing back to Walmart and get another , thanks NETGEAR, I think I'm Changing Brands nowSolvedOrbi Dropped connections
Orbi system is pure garbage and a waste of 400 dollars. Constant lose of internet, terrible WiFi speeds, dropped connections , the list goes on. I have even called support and the only option was to change my WiFi channels. The product is half baked, and customers should get their money back. Don’t buy this product.Orbi is a Complete Netgear Failure
I've experienced just about every major issue on this forum, and finally moved to Ubiquity last weekend. Life is much better now. That said, I could not be more dissapointed with Netgear's complete disregard for their customers, with a "no refund" policy. They launched (and continue distribute) out a product that is eseentially alpha status--full of bugs, connection drops, etc, and refuse to acknowledge and address it. It was not easy spending $800 on something that is a complete POS, now they refuse to accept respeonsibility. Goodbye Netgear.
