Using with Backup to Disk Applications
128 TopicsWhat is X-RAID2 ?
I am looking for a clear description of X-RAID2. I found a brief note that said it was similar to RAID 5. What I have is a ReadyNAS with six (6) 3 TB drives. Can I lose one and still have my data? Can I hot swap the drives? As a test can I pull a drive and still use the filesystem? Thanks.26KViews0likes7CommentsRsync Backup job NAS to USB drive suddenly displaying strange behaviour
The backup job in question has been running flawlessly 3 times a day for the last year.(alongside a similar job which is not mis-behaving) The only change I have made since this began is installing OS 6.7.4 The settings are: The Source Type is "volume" and the Name is "volume: data" Everything else is blank. The Destination is Type "remote" and the Name is "remote: RSync Server", Host is "localhost" and Path is "USB_HDD_1/NAS_IAN_Backup" Under Advanced compression is disabled and Remove deleted files on target is checked. The USB Drive is NTFS format. The odd behaviour is as follows: The log shows the log as starting and completing within one second !!! and reports Backup Status: Success Which is clearly not correct. The log also shows the following: sending incremental file list sent 733 bytes received 41 bytes 1,548.00 bytes/sec total size is 2,930 speedup is 3.79 S): Operation not supported (95) rsync: set_acl: sys_acl_set_file(data/Documents, ACL_TYPE_ACCESS): Operation not supported (95) rsync: set_acl: sys_acl_set_file(data/Downloads, ACL_TYPE_ACCESS): Operation not supported (95) rsync: set_acl: sys_acl_set_file(data/Ians_Stuff, ACL_TYPE_ACCESS): Operation not supported (95) rsync: set_acl: sys_acl_set_file(data/Music, ACL_TYPE_ACCESS): Operation not supported (95) rsync: set_acl: sys_acl_set_file(data/PC_Backup, ACL_TYPE_ACCESS): Operation not supported (95) rsync: set_acl: sys_acl_set_file(data/Pictures, ACL_TYPE_ACCESS): Operation not supported (95) rsync: set_acl: sys_acl_set_file(data/Recovered_Data, ACL_TYPE_ACCESS): Operation not supported (95) rsync: set_acl: sys_acl_set_file(data/Transmission, ACL_TYPE_ACCESS): Operation not supported (95) rsync: set_acl: sys_acl_set_file(data/Videos, ACL_TYPE_ACCESS): Operation not supported (95) rsync: set_acl: sys_acl_set_file(data/couchpotato, ACL_TYPE_ACCESS): Operation not supported (95) rsync: set_acl: sys_acl_set_file(data/sickrage, ACL_TYPE_ACCESS): Operation not supported (95) data/Documents/ data/Downloads/ data/Ians_Stuff/ data/Music/ data/PC_Backup/ data/Pictures/ data/Recovered_Data/ data/Transmission/ data/Videos/ data/couchpotato/ data/sickrage/ sent 838 bytes received 1,308 bytes 4,292.00 bytes/sec total size is 2,930 speedup is 1.37 rsync error: some files/attrs were not transferred (see previous errors) (code 23) at main.c(1183) [sender=3.1.1] I am totally stumped by this and am hoping someone here can help me or better still provide a solutionSolved11KViews0likes20CommentsBackup Exec RALUS Add-on [13.0.5204.1]
What is it?: Backup Exec Remote Agent for Linux and UNIX servers (RALUS). What is required: ReadyNAS x86 system (NVX,Pro,2100,3100,3200,4200,Pro2/4/6), Symantec Backup Exec with RALUS license. (NV+/1100 are not supported) Where to get it: BackupExec_13.0.5204.1-x86.bin (10/27/11) Like other ReadyNAS add-ons, install it in FrontView via System>Update>Local. How to use it: Once installed, you can see it listed in FrontView>Services>Installed Add-ons. In there, you can set the IP of your Backup Exec server, so the agent can properly announce itself to the backup server. ReadyNAS.com article: Using the Symantec RALUS agent with the ReadyNAS From Backup Exec server, if you create a new backup job, you should see the agent under Favorite Resources>Linux/Unix Servers. If you don’t see it right away, try stopping and starting it via FrontView. The default agent setting is to announce itself every four hours. We may add an option in FrontView to make this time shorter. Please provide feedback of your experience with the RALUS agent. Does it resolve 'agent missing' errors in your backup jobs, does it increase performance?11KViews0likes65Commentsrsync uid 4294967295 (-1) is impossible to set on...
Hi there. I have a problem with rsync backup on my ultra 2. I have some backup jobs running rsync, connecting to a windows machine running the deltacopy rsync server. Files are copied from the windows machine to the nas. On firmware 4.2.16 it worked flawless. After i upgraded to 4.1.17, whenever i run af job, i get a "backup failed" error (though the files are copied!), and the log is full of entries like this: uid 4294967295 (-1) is impossible to set on [filename] Can anybody help my to eliminate these errors? Thanks in advance /Beack9.2KViews0likes12CommentsReadyNAS becomes unresponsive - could it be tied to FW6.4 and backups?
I own a ReadyNAS 104. I currently have four 3TB drives in it in X-Raid. (5.86TB free of 8.17TB total). I have a 5TB USB 3.0 drive plugged into the front USB Drive. It is formatted as EXT4. I am only running SMB, HTTP and HTTPS services. I have 8 backup jobs to run each day (full refresh every 4 weeks). 4 are from shares on the ReadyNAS, 1 is a home directory on the ReadyNAS and 3 are remote: Windows/NAS (Timestamp). Everything was working fine. I applied the 6.4 upgrade. When the ReadyNAS first boots it works fine. Note that it did take about 3 days to complete the volume sync after the upgrade. However, after running for a while the unit stops working. I think I've narrowed it down to when one of the bigger backup jobs starts. The sympoms are as follows: I cannot access the admin page. It gives me the message that the unit is not responsive. The shares are also unavailable when this happens. There is no message on the display of the unit. The 4 drive lights are solid blue. The light on the button is flashing. I've left it this way for 2 days and it does not improve. I've tried pressing the power button on the unit and it has no effect. The only thing I can do is to unplug the readynas and plug it back in. Then it works ok, until another backup starts. Any suggestions? Anyone else experiencing similar issues? Thanks for your help.8.1KViews1like34CommentsRsync using SSH
Hello @ all, i want to use my newly bought Readynas RN104 to Backup some of my data from a Synology Diskstation DS2413+. To do this, i use rsync. The Readynas powers itself up, connects via rsync to Diskstation and copies newly modified files. But now i like to change to a secure connection using SSH because i want to use internet for the task. In the Web interface it's easy to select Rsync over SSH and export public rsa key. I copied the public key to the Diskstation and tested SSH connection with keys on the console of the Readynas, which is working fine. But i can't connect using Rsync. Again i tried using console and there seems to be a little problem with the connection path. The Readynas saves the connection string like this: "xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:/path" in the configuration file "/etc/frontview/backup_jobs.conf" But the Diskstation wants to have a connection string like this: "xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx::path" When creating a backup job not using SSH the connection string is correctly saved to "backup_jobs.conf", so it's clear why it is working with only using Rsync. I did not find the module which is writing backup_jobs.conf. Can someone please tell me which file needs to be modified. I'm not sure if the connection string the Diskstation wants or if the string the Readynas uses is the standard string. Possibly this can be updated in next firmware version. I've been using Retrospect on my Windows PC for years. I'm currently at Retrospect 10.5 on Win10 x64. I recently bought my 3rd ReadyNAS, with all three in service. (An NV+, an Ultra 4, and now a 214.) I moved the destination for one of my disk backups to go to the new 214. It works fine if I run Retrospect interactively. But, if I set Retrospect to run automated at a specific time, it sends me an alert email that says ,"Waiting for media". Note that it works fine backing up to the Ultra 4, in either automated or interactive mode. (I have three different backup scripts for three different drives. The other two drives back up to the Ultra 4, and work fine in the automated mode.) When it's waiting for media, I have to kill Retrospect, relaunch it interactively, and it works perfectly in the interactive mode. My share on the ReadyNAS is configured for Anonymous users to have full read/write access. File access is set up for guest to have read/write access. I started with a clean, empty 214. I have Retrospect configured to "Run Retrospect as the logged-in user", which is me. Except that this works fine on the Ultra 4, I would suspect it's a problem with Retrospect permissions. But, because it works on the Ultra 4, I suspect I'm missing some permission configuration on the 214. The Ultra 4 configuration differs substantially from the 214 configuration, so I can't tell what I might be missing. Any advice for how to fix this, or how to diagnose this further? Thanks in advance.Solved6.8KViews0likes18CommentsBackup
Hi, I'm trying to sync some folders from 1 NAs RN10211D unit to 50 Nasunits RN10211D on private WAN network. Since the content is formed by large video files what is the best way to do it ? I have the latest firmware 6.1.9 on RN10211D . SO far I tried FTP and RSYNC I can do easily a FTP backup job for initial replication and it works. But I have some issues with ftp backup: if I delete some files from the destination folder and I'm running the backup again it won't do anything, No deleted files will appear. No luck with RSYNC either , I figure out it won't work unless you have a user name and a password (no security not good for rsync) Also another issue, local share folder Videos as source and ip address in destination remote: rsync server will fail. If I put folder Videos in path settings of destination (host will be same) it will create a folder videos in the videos folder. So I'm stuck. Also rsync won't let you select the maximum speed. This is a big issue as I don't want too kill the network Waiting for suggestions. Sorry if this was posted already I couldn't find anything thank you Dragos6.3KViews0likes18Comments
