I’m experiencing persistent instability with my Orbi mesh network and IoT devices, and I’m hoping someone can help confirm whether this is a known issue or if there’s something fundamental I’m missing. Setup: Orbi RBR850 (router) 2 x RBS850 (satellites) Firmware currently downgraded to V7.2.7.15 House size around 189 m2 + 50 m2 garage One satellite has been tested both wired and wireless Problem: Multiple IoT devices constantly drop off the network and reconnect. Shelly Gen3 (garage door switch) Robot vacuum (Deebot) In Home Assistant I see repeating patterns like: device turned off device became unavailable device became unknown This happens many times per day, often in the same time windows for different devices, which strongly suggests network instability rather than individual device issues. Phones, laptops and TVs appear mostly fine. The problem mainly affects 2.4 GHz IoT devices. Symptoms: Devices disconnect and reconnect every 20 to 60 minutes Some devices show weak signal despite being 5 to 10 meters from the main router Devices sometimes connect to a satellite even when the main router is physically closer Problems persist across different firmware versions What I’ve tried: Downgraded firmware on both router and satellites Power-cycled everything in correct order (router first, then satellites) Tested both wireless and wired backhaul Removed one satellite completely Disabled 5 GHz temporarily for onboarding Re-paired devices multiple times Factory reset Shelly devices Verified signal strength and placement None of this has resulted in stable long-term behaviour. My conclusion so far: This looks like an Orbi mesh, band steering or roaming issue affecting 2.4 GHz IoT devices. The devices themselves work fine on other networks, but with Orbi they continuously flap between connected and unavailable. It feels like Orbi is aggressively steering or optimizing in a way that modern phones handle, but embedded IoT devices do not. My questions: Is this a known behaviour with Orbi and IoT devices? Is there any way to force devices to stick to a specific AP? Is there any way to fully disable band steering or roaming? Is it possible to create a true 2.4 GHz only SSID without hidden steering? Are there any recommended settings specifically for IoT stability? At this point the network is fast but unreliable, which is honestly worse than just slower but stable. Any insight appreciated, especially from others running IoT-heavy setups on Orbi. Thanks.Wi-Fi SoCs to repeatedly spam IP requests to the DHCP server
Fellow RBK/R/S850 owner here... I've also experienced this issue for some time, having it intermittently occur following a power outage. I eventually found that I could usually resolve things with a manual firmware "update" of the router (even if just "updating" to the same firmware version already installed; never needed to do anything with the satellites), and things were running pretty well for me for awhile on 7.2.7.15. Over this last weekend, my nodes all auto-updated to 7.2.8.2, and this issue resurfaced. Unfortunately, the manual firmware update trick was no longer working - I even tried going back to 7.2.7.15, and up to 7.2.8.5 (available from the Netgear RBR/S850 websites), but no matter what I tried, I'd only get about 20-30 devices in the house to connect (normally have around 70; IoT junkie here), notably excluding phones and laptops. I consulted the router logs (which, bluntly, suck), and discovered a couple of devices were being repeatedly assigned the same respective IPs over and over, about once every 30 seconds each. Fortunately, both devices were also appearing under the router's "Attached Devices" menu with identifying details (a Litter Robot 3 and Litter Robot 4), so I was able to track them down and clear their Wi-Fi settings, removing them from the network at their respective endpoints. Rebooted the router, and everything else in the house connected without issue. Evidently it's not uncommon for some (particularly cheap) Wi-Fi SoCs to repeatedly spam IP requests to the DHCP server, regardless of assignment lease time. If the DHCP server isn't designed to handle this behavior, it can bog down, preventing further IP assignments. I'm not opposed to leaving the Litter Robots disconnected from the network (I lose status notifications, but they have status lights that I usually check daily anyway), but if I'd happened to have another device exhibiting the same behavior (robot vacuum, for example), I would be less accepting of the situation. Moral of my story: If you're encountering the same behavior as the rest of us on this thread, check your router log to see if any devices are being assigned the same IP multiple times in a short time frame, try to identify those devices (either by checking for them in the router's "Attached Devices" menu, or via a search of the offending MAC address), and then try removing them from the network (this part will be dependent on the specific offending device; e.g. may have to perform a factory reset) to see if the issue resolves (may still need to reboot the router after removing the offending devices).AirPrint issues
RBR850 mesh Ios devices IOS 26.2 Canon TS8150 printer for a few years I have been printing from various IOS devices around my home. over the last few weeks all of the iOS devices have been starting to fail at printing. tried rebooting all systems. printer works when printing from hardwired computer. tried removing printer from WiFi and reconnecting tried full reset of printer and reinstall WiFi checked printer has latest firmware any suggestions as to where to try next?SolvedOpenVPN funktioniert nicht mehr

Settings under Administration > NTP Settings. Doesn't matter which NTP server is being used. Works and adjusts DST correctly for the Brisbane / Sydney / Melbourne timezone and others work correctly. The router doesn't seem to know that the Adelaide / Darwin (GMT+930) timezone also has a daylight savings time that should be applied.Rbr850 does not recover from internet drop
I'm still on fibre to the node so I use a modem in bridge mode with an Ethernet cable direct to the orbi router. Essentially the orbi authenticates the connection but the modem translates. Every so often the orbi drops the internet even though the modem shows a solid connection. The unit flashes white for a while then goes a solid purple requiring a reboot to restore the connection. Note that the modem does not need a reboot but I have found that rebooting both means the service stays up longer than if I just boot the orbi. Firmware is right up to date and it's done this since new. I've ended up building a watchdog that boots the orbi after 5 minutes of no internet but really should this be necessary?RBS850 as satellite to Orbi 970?
It’s almost 2026, what have you found? To buy the new system wifi7 and run your 850w/ satellites in your outbuildings? perhaps just the main router is best with cheap $20 or less extenders, at least they can work with any system and just boost the signal whatever it may be especially with the cost of their satellites that only work with the same model router. I have the 850 with 5 additional satellites just to cover my 5000 sq ft house and still no service in many areas connected to Starlink. I get the Starlink w/1 everywhere but the Orbi… well just sad really. Im interested to see what you are doing. Running VPN? From routers ? Dark web?TIVO ASSISTANCE
Hello. and good morning , I am being told by my cable company that all tv info will have to switch to TIVO , I have an. Orbi router and. satellite , they are telling me ,that it has IP Snooping enabled which blocks IP TV traffic , is there a way to disable it and if it is disabled what if any are the down sides to disabling , they installed 2 devices called "Plumes " , this orbit router system was expensive and would like to keep it , thank you for any insight in advance .
