Orbi loosing Internet Connection
Hello - I have had my Orbi installed for less than a week. 3 time now it has lost all connection to the internet. I have to reboot, unplug, both the Orbi and my modem multiple time before I can get reconnected. My old router ASUS RT-AC3100 never lost connection and I have the same modem and Comast service.
The only difference in the setup is that Netgear Tech support had me use the computers MAC address to get connected to the internet. Never had to do that before on any router I have ever owned.
HELP - any ideas why I am loosing connection.
Hello Everyone
We have release firmware version 1.12.0.18 this firmware has fixes for disconnects and many more I posted the release notes below.

If you are still having issues after updating your Orbi unit you may want to factory reset the Orbi and test again. If you are still having disconnect issues or other issues with this firmware please create a new thread or contact our support team.

- That's interesting. I tried to set mine up in AP mode but my devices wouldn't connect. I currently have the bridge set up on my modem and have the Orbi Router directly plugged into it.
Unfortunately, I had to perform a hard reset which caused me to manually reconnect every device in the house. I would try again but I don't want to reset all my passwords in addition to re-setting up the Orbi app which lost all of the information I had entered initially.- tpgallGuide
I have also been having problems with the Orbi losing internet connection. I upgrade to the latest router firmware, 1.5.0.12, in the hopes they fixed it, but over the last 2 days it has locked up twice.
Any suggestions from Netgear on settings or troubleshooting? I have everything set to defaults with the Guest network off.

I had an unexplained connection drop this morning too (magenta router). After doing a power cycle, it's been OK since.
Latest firmware here, and I verified it was not an issue related to my servce provider
Something still isn't quite right with the basic Orbi firmware - hoping another update is released soon...
- I'd be interested to know if this works for you. I tried AP mode and none of my devices would connect. I hope it works for you!
- I haven't tried the upstream connection. I'll give that a try! Thanks for the suggestion!

Mine looses connection for about 4 seconds. From 1 till 5 times in one hour.
Any idea?
Thinking about returning the Orbi, feels like 1991 to have bad connection and go back to Apple.
Very dissatisfied!
- That's unfortunate. The system costs too much money for it to be failing that often. I wish they had guidelines On what are the best or ideal settings. Obviously not every situation is the same but some guidelines would be helpful. I'm not quite ready to take it back but I'm getting close. Best of luck to you.
- This is ridiculous I will have to roll back. Disconnects constantly. Get your act together Orbi. !! This is imbarrising
I hope someone here can be of help. I just purchased a Netgear Orbi router and satellite based on the sterling reviews and individual recommendations I've read for months now. I have tried both Luma and eero; Luma was a disaster from the beginning, and the eero has worked just fine. The Orbi gives me great wireless coverage throughout my home, but my daughter and wife have complained about intermittent Internet connectivity issues, and I have had several problems today with Internet connectivity while working on my laptop.
The error message I get is "DNS probe finished - no Internet" or words to that effect. I've also tried restarting the cable modem, resetting the wireless connection on the client, and reviewing the Orbi logs; other than "UPnP set event" and "DoS attack", there is nothing there that would indicate a problem.I didn't come across any references to these connectivity problems in my research, but this thread suggests that it's been an issue for a while.
as i specifically stated in the other forum you posted this in , its a known and confirmed issue , the dev team are working on it as we speak but at this stage no resolution , you can try disabling beam forming and mu-mimo from the advanced menu , otherwise wait till new fw is released

Not sure if I have the same issue as everyone else here. Had my Orbi and one satelite since early January - i.e. two months. Been working great since then so I didn't really pay attention to it. In the last two days it has lost connection to the internet twice. After a reboot it has come back up and stayed up for about 24 hours the first time. Just rebooted again and we will see.
Both Beamforming and and MU-MIMO and turned on; I have never touched the setting. So is it recommended to turn these off until the issue is fixed?
It hink I am still in the return window for Best Buy and may get the new Google product.
I've had two main issues that everyone else seems to be experiencing. Drop-outs/timeouts with wireless and streaming when wired wouldn't buffer right and have very slow streaming video/audio. I've fixed both by placing the Orbi + Sattellites in AP mode. I use my nethawk as just a wired router and disable WiFi. Everything has been running smooth since then.
Anyone try version 1.8.0.6 yet to see if it corrects the problem?

release notes
New Features and Enhancements:
- Supports Korea wireless region
Bug Fixes:
- Fixes bugs and security issues.
note very helpful ! what bugs and security issues ?
- (Posted this in the wrong thread earlier)
1.8.0.6 does not solve my issue. My router is still loosing WAN connection several times a day. It has been for several fw releases now (got a support case on it). The router looses IP/DNS from isp and gaines it again after some time. I have provided support with debug logs and all sorts of info.
Plugging in alternative hw/router and putting Orbi in AP mode seems to be a workaround (by reading other peoples findings). But I can't test it as the Orbi kit is my only router and It would still be a workaround rather than a solution.
I ran some tests and plugged in a computer directly to the WAN port and reloaded a webpage for a day. No disconnects /WAN drop during the tests.- Yld2robLuminary
You are correct. I had the exact same problem. You need another router and put the orbi in AP mode until Netgear fixes the issue
- Same problem for me, the WAN connection regularly drops. Upgraded to the latest firmware without success. Turned off all other wifi devices in our house.

Latest firmware does hot address these issues Netgear Engineering is aware and hopefully working on a Firmware that will address these issues soon atleast that is the hope

I upgraded to the latest firmware last week. I was losing the Internet connection once or twice per week. I now lose the Internet connection multiple times a day. BIG step backwards. The netgear Web site says "Take the Orbi wifi challenge." I never thought the challenge would be to maintain an Internet connection. Orbi may be great technology but you can'take prove it by me. It is definitely not ready for prime time.
- Retired_MemberThey have been saying that for 6 months. Don't believe everything you hear from their support.
