Orbi loosing Internet Connection
Hello - I have had my Orbi installed for less than a week. 3 time now it has lost all connection to the internet. I have to reboot, unplug, both the Orbi and my modem multiple time before I can get reconnected. My old router ASUS RT-AC3100 never lost connection and I have the same modem and Comast service.
The only difference in the setup is that Netgear Tech support had me use the computers MAC address to get connected to the internet. Never had to do that before on any router I have ever owned.
HELP - any ideas why I am loosing connection.
Hello Everyone
We have release firmware version 1.12.0.18 this firmware has fixes for disconnects and many more I posted the release notes below.

If you are still having issues after updating your Orbi unit you may want to factory reset the Orbi and test again. If you are still having disconnect issues or other issues with this firmware please create a new thread or contact our support team.

- thetneeAspirantFor the past 20 hours ZERO issues. Will wait and monitor. Speed is blazing now again too.
FB comments load instantly no matter how many. - Or do you mean these problems? In such case - since the beginning of January. Currently running beta firmware that doesn't fix my issues (got an ongoing support case). There seems to be connection issues between and Orbi and devices trying to connnect and issues between Orbi and the internet (disconnects).
I'd like to add my name to the list of people affected by Internet disconnects.
I only seem to have started with the issue in the last week; had the system for nearly a month.
If I turn off my satellite unit, things seem to work fine.
I've been through all of the posts and taken advice on choosing wireless channels, MTU etc
Currently waiting for my device to factory default reset and start over.

Mine also loses connection at random. There is no modem, it is hooked up directly to the wall outlet (it is a fiber connecton). Orbi will work perfectly for awhile and then the main router will burn solid magenta. Spent hours on the phone with 2-3 people from tech support. Did everything from making sure firmware was up to date, reboot, reset, wipe to factory settings, check all networking settings and the bandaid fix was to use a static IP instead of DHCP. This worked for 2 weeks and it went straight back to burning solid magenta with no connection. Called back and they are sending me a replacement. But of couarse I have to pay for shipping AND be without wifi for a period of time while they send me another via ground shipping. This entire situation pizzes me off to be honest. For the money spent on this system to have to endure the subpar support and faulty equipment is insane. If it were not for the amount of money spent on this equipment I would have put it in a box, sh!t in it, and sent it back to netgear.
- Phis213InitiateHow do you roll back?
I've been having constant disconnects from the Internet also since installing the Orbi 2-unit kit 2 weeks ago. I've tried reverting to old firmware version, adjusting various wifi settings one by one and continued to have random Internet disconnects. One of the recent settings adjustments I made was to turn OFF QoS for both the 2.4 and 5 Ghz bands. You can reach this from the Advanced Tab -> Setup -> QoS Setup. On the WMM Tab, uncheck both boxes and save the settings. You may want to reboot the router one last time. Honestly, I don't remember if I did that step.
So far the unit has been stable since making this one change, so worth a try if you have not already done so.
- Thanks for this. I haven't tried that yet. Be interested to see if it addresses drops.
In addition, I've ordered a Netgear VDSL modem. Currently have BT Openreach modem which the Orbi Router was connected to.
I want to see if having the Netgear VDSL modem will improve my line speed, although I have read somewhere about BT matching Openreach boxes to cabinets...
If the QoS uncheck does nothing for me, I'm tempted to put Orbi in AP mode and move routing to the aforementioned VDSL / modem combo- jleecloak1Apprentice
To the post that mentioned turning off ipv6 made the connection stable. The ipv6 was disabled by default so I know this isn't going to fix anything.
I would recommend trying to disable to the WMM features under QoS settings to see if that relieves the issues with random internet connectivity issues. I did this a few days ago and almost 3 days of uptime and no Internet connectivity drops or Wifi issues.
- I just did this so I'm hopeful this will resolve my issues as well. Thanks for the suggestion.
Is WMM option somewhere else now? I do not see it in QoS settings in Advanced. I would like to try to disable it and see if that fixes my internet drops.
I am losing internet connection intermittently. I started running Pingplotter on my windows machine and set it to ping google.com and the local router IP every 5 seconds. Every few hours google.com becomes unpingable for 1-5 minutes, but the router stays pingable, so it's clearly a WAN issue. When I am home and notice this, then rebooting the router fixes it.
I bought the Orbi from Costco which has a 90 day return policy. I think I'm getting close to 90 days, so I'm debating on returning it. This is really unacceptable for a $400 device. I really like Orbi otherwise, but I cannot deal with the internet disconnects. I am on latest firmware and have tried factory reset.

Log in to router. Go to Advanced>advanced>wireless settings>uncheck the boxes for WMM for both frequencies and Apply. You're done!
- I tried replacing my VDSL modem with a Netgear DM200. What a farce and waste of time that was. Three hours effort and it didn't work. Gone back to the Openreach provided modem (in bridge mode) and turned off some of the Orbi settings folks have mentioned here.
New firmware came out in the last few days too so let's see if that makes any difference too. Can't see any setup changes so must be under the hood fixes.
