Nighthawk M6 Pro MR6500 - Using Internationally (Telia/Chilimobil) Won't Connect to Internet

I have a new MR6500 purchased domestically in the States, factory unlocked per my eBay seller. I travel quite a bit abroad and have a norwegian Data Sim with Chilimobil (using Telia's networks) and while the device connects to the network (It says Chilimobil 4G LTE and shows signal bars 4/5) - it says "Mobile Broadband Disconnected" and when checking the Internet Map settings it says Internet "Not Connected"

Tried/Tested:

-The Sim is Unlocked with pin code (in fact, I deactivated Sim security because it got annoying).
-popped the data sim into my phone and confirm it connects just fine on an iPhone, so it is clearly a router issue

-factory reset didn't do anything helpful

-international and domestic roaming ON

Any insight one can provide on taking these things abroad would be most helpful.

FWIW, I tried calling Chilimobil customer service and they couldn't figure out why it would not connect to the internet either.

While many questions about routers are generic and could be answered anywhere, some things need specialist knowledge.

You might get more help, and find earlier questions and answers specific to your device, in the appropriate section for your hardware. That's probably here:

    Mobile Routers, Hotspots & Modems

Those things are very different from the standard Netgear routers covered in this section.

I will ask the Netgear moderator to move your message.

In the meantime you could visit the support pages:

    Support | NETGEAR

Feed in your model number and check the documentation for your hardware. Look at the label on the device for the model number.

    Check for various troubleshooting tips.

You may have done this already. I can't tell from your message.

I mention it because Netgear stopped supplying printed manuals and CD versions some years ago and people sometimes miss the downloads.

While I appreciate the tips, I wouldn't have posted a question this specific if I could find it in the the generic manuals for the device. This provided no solution to me.

Thank you for moving the thread to a more relevant forum - appreciate it!

Any tips/advice from the rest of the community?

      • The only two MR6500 versions I'm aware come with dedicated band plans for ATT and Telstra Australia. there are in no aspect universal world-wide models. Matching tech and band would be pure luck on a global use base:

        • LTE CAT 20
        • 5G Sub-6: n2, n5, n12, n14, n29, n30, n66, n77

I am getting mine in the mail, so i might be in the same boat as well,

      - You should access and see if the Mr6500 have a matching IMEI to that in the battery compartment, some third parties unlocking

process might corrupt the IMEI, google IMEI repair if that is the case.

to check for the IMEI there are online tools to do that.

      - Just to rule out the SIM card, please while it is inserted in the phone, activate the phone hotspot and see if you can access that hotspot from another device and check for connectivity.

  • Hello kbee

I just did a similar purchase from eBay: NETGEAR Nighthawk M6 Pro MR6500 AT&T +GSM Unlocked from the seller qualitycellz5G WiFi 6E Mobile Router (MR6500) . I am taking a big risk (~1000€ with import taxes and shipping to France) but I wanted the best mobile router, for professional and domestic purposes (very bad cable and LTE internet in my area, but great 5G signal)

Since it's supposed to be "GSM unlocked" and the router covers all the bands of 5G antennas near my working environment, it should be fine. I'm getting worried after seeing your post, though.

Did you manage to make it work? And if you did, what method did you use?

Hello did you receive it and make it work? I ordered the same thing (NETGEAR Nighthawk M6 Pro MR6500 AT&T +GSM Unlocked) and now I am wondering if it will work in Europe???

Thank you in advance for your answer....

  • Have you try to change APN? Make sure you find the apn of a particular network you are connecting to and go to settings on the router to change apn so it can give a room for the said network
