Netgear GS105Ev2 mismatch
Hello,
Since the past couple of days, I encountered a problem where a number of applications and websites are not working properly. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. For example, on twitch.tv the stream loads, but after 30 seconds the stream buffers and/or the chat randomly disconnects. On League of Legends I can sometimes connect to the lobby, but get dropped the moment the game starts. Or I disconnect from champ select. Sometimes YouTube loads, but takes a while and drops connection halfway through the video. When checking the router and calling the ISP, everything seems okay.
Now I've checked the Netgear GS105Ev2 switch and the cable tester shows a Mismatch error on the cable router through to my PC.
The other cables don't give errors.
I've updated the firmware and rebooted the switch. I've updated Windows and rebooted the router. I've tried 3 different cables, where each one shows a Mismatch at the end of the cable.
Routing is as follows:
Port 1: ISP Router -> Switch (1000M)
Port 2: My PC (Mismatch) (1000M)
Port 3: GF's PC (100M) (This should be 1000M so there's also something going wrong here)
Port 4: Solar Panels (100M)
Port 5: Not used.
| Port | Port Description | Port Status | Speed | Linked Speed | Flow Control | Max MTU | |
| 1 | IN | Up | Auto | 1000M | Disable | 16349 | |
| 2 | My-PC | Up | Auto | 1000M | Disable | 16349 | |
| 3 | GF-PC | Up | Auto | 100M | Disable | 16349 | |
| 4 | Solar Panels | Up | Auto | 100M | Disable | 16349 | |
| 5 | Down | Auto | No Speed | Disable | 16349 |

Does anybody know what to do here? I'm kinda running out of options.
Thanks in advance.

I've also tried to use different ports for my pc, but they also show a Mismatch when plugged in.

Are you saying using Port 5 on the switch instead of Port 2 gives the same error?

What grade is the cable? Does it run directly to the PC, or is there a junction box or patch panel along the path?

Yes, it gives the same error. So does port 3 and 4.

I've tried cables ranging from CAT5e and CAT6.
Thanks!

Port 2: My PC (Mismatch) (1000M)
Mismatch: Sometimes also reported as Impedance Mismatch or Crosstalk. Means the cable's electrical resistance is not consistent across its length, preventing it from meeting the 100 Ohm standard.
This causes signals to reflect back along the wire, leading to poor performance, packet loss, or a total inability to connect.
How long is the

This is certainly not a part of the simple cable test feature.
Much more, it appears the Ethernet link negotiated to 100M, typically due to cable or connector contact issues - this will be also indicated by a single LED on the GS105Ev2. This switch has two LEDs on the front along with each connector. Both lit and flashing == 1000M, only left lit == 100M, only the right one lit == 10M (if wally brain is right).
1000M requires four working pairs, with one wire not properly connecting -> the link must fall back to Fast Ethernet.
Both issues can be caused by very poor wiring, cabling, bad connector crimping. Common is carless placing of the individual wires (not keeping in twisted pairs long enough) in wall outlets.
Many other reasons can cause wrong or misleading results. Cable length or error position indication requires typically at least a cable connection of about 10 meters.
Also well known is the effect that Ethernet ports supporting higher link speeds than Gigabit - means MultiGig (2.5G, 5G) ot 10 G ports (active or inactive link, but plugged) can cause errors or "measurement" failures.

Cable Fault Distance (meters) 2
Do these 2 meters make any sense related to the physical cable length or installation, or is this a random and unexpected position?
Last but not least: Always post the effective installed firmware version. v1.6.0.21 is current, as of writing -> GS105Ev2 Support

There are actually two issues here.
- Port 2 (My-PC) is showing the cable mismatch, but is negotiating gigabit
- Port 3 (GF-PC) passes the cable test, but is only negotiating 100M
I've been focused on the first one.
Pleasefix: Did you try a different cable for GF-PC?

I've plugged the cable directly from the ISP router into my PC and the problems persist. Therefore I conclude that it's not the switch that's acting up. Neither is it the socket in my PC, as my GF has the same issues. I will contact my ISP again with some new info to see if the problem lies on their end.

I'm confused by this, since port 3 is passing the cable test, but the GF/Switch is not negotiating gigabit. Which it should be doing. Can you clarify which issues you mean?
The app performance issues might be due to your ISP, but there still is something going on with your ethernet that should be fixed.
