I have a similar issue with my RBR850 but I'm on V7.2.6.21
flyingdutchgeek I have a similar issue with my RBR850 but I'm on V7.2.6.21, wired backhaul and every time I look at the satellite its either magenta, white and blue. I disabled the firmware updates because of screwup by netgear and releasing code that was an absolute mess. I wonder if something else has changed (Carrier or ???) that is not compatible with Orbi.
FURRYe38 do you have a link handy for the firmware available?

How are the RBS ethernet connected? Directly behind the RBR or is there a LAN switch here?
What CAT# LAN cable is being used between the RBR and RBS?
FW is here:
Orbi Firmware Releases | NETGEAR Communities
I recommend manually updating, RBS first, then RBR lastly using this process:
Procedure to Manually Firmware Update Orbi and Nighthawk Mesh systems. | NETGEAR Communities
I would probabably do a full on factory reset on the system using this process:
Orbi Systems Manual Factory Reset Process | NETGEAR Communities
I would work with the RBS first in wireless BH mode, can bring the RBS to same room or near(er) to the RBR. Then once system is fully set up again, and wireless connected, ethernet connect each RBS to back of RBR to make sure they get synce via ethernet, then you could put them back in there remote locations.
I had my 853 series online for over 30 days, saw no ETH BH issues with my RBS. Non managed LAN switches in the mixe as well.

Bummer, I thought it might be easy...I think I lost my IT hat:)
Maybe time to get a new router. I saw that Wirecutter rated the Erro (sp) as the best for 2025. Any thoughts (and I think I just hijacked this thread (sorry flyingdutchgeek)

Have you factory reset the system first, the first wirelessly let the RBS sync to the RBR. Then once set up and synced good over wireless, then ethernet connect them?
Something I always do with my Orbi systems, wireless sync first, then ethernet connect.
What CAT# LAN cable is being used between the RBR and RBS?
What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
What is the distance between the router 📡 and satellite(s)🛰️? 30 feet or more is recommended in between RBR 📡 and RBS 🛰️ to begin with depending upon building materials when wired or wirelessly connected.I ran my 853 system on v.21 as well for a long time when v.21 was new. Was best and most stable FW to date. My RBS were ethernet connected as well.

Sounds like a lot of effort. Cat6, Like the OP it's wired so not certain why distance is an issue, it has been working fine, just the last few weeks and now almost solid.

I started to update to the latest V7 2.7.15. Update RBS (ok) then wen to update RBR but failed with something like check the file. Downloaded the file again for the RBR (not the RBS), still failed. Tried to roll back the RBS from current to previous but I can't find the specific file for RBS for 6.21.

What browser are you using? Try MS Edge or Firefox? I always use MS Edge.
I presume you did unpack the .zip files before using.
Did you use the RBS web page to do the FW update?
I always have the RBS web pages open in a tab for each unit, then the RBR as well in a different tab. I'm able to send one RBS at a time, then once I see the progress cicle on both, I then go and send the FW file to the RBR on it's manual tab page there. .CHK file will be sent there. I then wait for all to get processed and come back to ready.

I have Chrome or Safari. I'll try chrome but.... funny thing is the RBS has been solid (good) for 30+ min now since updating the RBS to 2.7.15. Maybe I should leave it alone?
I used the manual process from router page while connected to the RBS and then tried the same for the RBR while connected to the RBR.

You on Mac?
Try Firefox as well.
RBR should be taking the extracted .chk RBR file. How I updated my system. However was using a Windows PC I believe back then.
- JroachLuminary
yes and yes
RBS took the .chk file, not so with RBR but haven't tried chrome.
What's the risk of 2.7.15 on RBS and 2.6.21 on RBR. It's been good for a few hours now
- FURRYe38Guru - Experienced User
Could work, however RBR and RBS should be on same FW level. Let it run for now and see how it goes.
Will need to get the RBR updated at some point though.
Something to try to load the RBR using NMRPFlash maybe if Chrome or Firefox don't do it normally.
- JroachLuminary
USING Chrome, loaded 2.7.15 onto rbr850. Factory reset after. Still having problems and lost Samsung TV's (maybe they are set for IPv6?
In the logs around the same time as the failure I'm seeing: [UPnP set event: AddPortMapping] from source 192.168.1.37, Sunday, Aug 03,2025 15:16:33
That device is a Sonos speaker
I will likely try and roll back to the previous version of firmware.
- JroachLuminary
disabled and still has the RBS dropping. Wired devices attached to the RBS continue to run.
- JroachLuminary
loaded V7.2.6.31
did not do a factory reset (yet)
confirmed it is just the wireless devices on the RBS that are failing
I'll let it run for an hour or so and enable IPv6
- JroachLuminary
I'm also seeing dulpicate name conflicts, ie: "device" vs "device(3)". might be a downstream issue from the failure I'm experiencing.

FURRYe38 thanks for the advice
Maybe safari or ???? but this forum is difficult to figure out. I'm use to things being in an order of old to new and no matter how I sort it my most recent comments don't appear (at least where I think they should be)...oh well
might have found a 'smoking gun' thanks to your advice about setting the range .100 to .200. Two device kept falling below .100. Turns out those devices had static IP set, likely from some issue a few years back. One of the IP address' was .41 (ref earlier in this thread that that seemed to be a duplicate). Changed them to dynamic and monitoring.
- FURRYe38Guru - Experienced User
Ah ok. So already had one at .41 static. Could have left it there if yo uchanged the range. But see how it goes now. Probably good now.
I use Opera GX for forum postings.
I refresh the pages as well to see new posts or updates.
- JroachLuminary
Good to know about Opera GX.
Problem persists. Not enough tools with Netgear/Orbi to see what's going on and I need an appliance, not a hobby:)
I think it's time to move on and try something new. Have you had any experience with the eero 6 or TP-Link Deco BE63? Rich Demuro
recommends both and seems to be a pretty unbiased opinion (I hope)

Is the 770 a good replacement?
- FURRYe38Guru - Experienced User
Mines been good as it's currently online.
There are known issues with newest generation Android and Apple devices with BE systems. Something NG is working with them and chipset mfrs on.
Is the 850 series your only router system currently?
- JroachLuminary
Caught me just in time. I was in the parking lot to buy the 770 and got your reply....phew. Not supporting latest is biggy.
RBk850 is my only router system. Can't find a RBS850 to replace my satellite...nobody carries new units in 2-packs, just 3-packs locally.
oh well
- JroachLuminary
I'll try the 30-30-30 and report back.
Tks for the tip about other RBS' compatible with the 850 but if the reset you outlined doesn't work then I've gone past my limit time wise. Whats crazy is
this is my third Orbi and if I replace it with another Orbi then I think I lost my marbles. Always the same thing, some error and too difficult to find the root cause but replacing it
works for a few years.
