New RBS750 (satellite) ... can't check/flash the firmware

Hi all,

Having some challenges with a new RBS750 satellite to connect to a pre-existing setup of RBR750 and another RBS750.

The latter 2 are on V7.2.6.31. I do not know what the new satellite firmware is - and I think this is the problem.

(currently when adding the satellite I get disconnected backhaul status in the router UI 'connected devices)'.

I'm hoping my problem is something so silly it is immediately obvious to everyone.

I have a copy of this RBS750's firmware ready to flash .... but I can't get into it!

I am getting a connection refused message on my Edge and Chrome browsers with any of these solutions

  1. Orbi RBS750 won't connect to Router Fix | NETGEAR Communities (fyi, my IP for the new device is 168.192.1.24) [New Satellite cabled directly to the Router]
  2. And I've tried

    https://community.netgear.com/t5/s/ejquo23388/attachments/ejquo23388/en-home-orbi-ax/59072/1/OrbiSatelliteSelfServiceWebAccess.pdf

[New Satellite cabled directly to a desktop that is on the network )
    1. I've seen references/hits where static IP 192.168.10.49 & 192.168.10.250 don't work (not for me either) and I've also
    2. Tried static IP 192.168.1.175 & 192.168.1.250 as well (

      https://www.reddit.com/r/orbi/comments/1himkqy/updating_the_software_for_satellite_which_was_not/)

Chrome and Edge are allowed on the windows defender firewall ... (and I've even turned off the firewall to try that) .. no other anti-virus software.

Pinging the IP works; as do pinging the IPs from 2.1 and 2.2 steps above. Telnet won't allow with port 80 (which from memory is the http port .. hence the symptoms I'm seeing above)

...

I've seen potential ideas to (backup first) and then downgrade my existing/working RBR750 and RBS750 to v4.6.3.7 and try connecting the new RBS750 again through the usual orbi app/web interface to 'add a satellite' though wanted to check in with the brains trust first.

Any help appreciated!!!!

(so so so much trouble this thing!)

Is this a new RBS or a used one?

You should be able to access the RBS web page at  192.168.10.250 if you set a static IP address ON the wired PC to 192.168.10.49, 255.255.255.0 subnet. Factory reset the incoming RBS by pressing the reset button for 15 seconds then release. Then give about 5 minutes then try the IP address of the RBS

Orbi Satellite (RBS) Self-Service Web Page Access | NETGEAR Communities

Which IP address is responding to pinging of the RBS?

Might try a full on 30-30-30 reset on the RBS, Then try the self service IP address.

  • hey FURRYe38 - appreciate the response so quickly

I believe it is new (ebay - as its an older model so you never know .. it looks new).

I tried the above however with the desktop PC wirelessly connected to the network. I have a USB / Ethernet converter arriving today so will try again but with the PC wired (PC only has 1 ethernet port currently). Wish me luck.

IP address is 192.168.1.26 in my first solution attempt. Respective 192.168.10.250 & 192.168.1.250 with 2.1 and 2.2 solution attempts above.

    Thank you for the

https://www.reddit.com/r/orbi/comments/kjslnh/how_to_completely_reset_an_orbi/ 30-30-30 reset (link included for other readers). I will try the wired solution first.

  • I will add .. with Solution 1 I tried ... having the PC wired (and also wireless) on the network with the new RBS750 wired directly into the RBR750 made no difference - I was unable to open the satellite interface via 192.168.1.26

Ethernet PC needs to be directly connected to the back of the RBS. RBS needs to not be connected to anything. Just the Ethernet PC and the RBS connection in between them.

        :(

And I've also confirmed that the router is not connected to the satellite (its not showing at all in the webui for the router under attached devices)

(and the satellite is a solid white colour)

  • Just closing this out for the reader.

After an hour on the call with a friendly netgear support operator, he also was unable to connect.

We ruled out the power supply.

We tried the latest Dec 25 firmware for the the router and older (working) satellite.

Still unable to get into the new satellite to flash the firmware. Connection refused

The support gent has seen this before and ruled it a defective device.

No happy ending but at least it helps validate I had tried everything myself and help received thanks to folk here. Thank you again.

Ya seems like the newer RBS is a bad unit. You'll need to get it back to place of purchase and hopefully you can find another one.

      Good Luck.

(Yes, this process is very frustrating....)

With the PC connected only to the satellite with an Ethernet cable to one of the LAN ports

(neither the PC nor the satellite connected to anything else)

    Factory Reset the satellite.

Set the PC to a static IP (as above, 192.168.10.49 is fine)

Open a web browser and enter the address 192.168.10.250

      Appreciate the suggestion CrimpOn

(the router was turned off, so was the other good satellite ... only thing connected to the PC was the ethernet to the dud satellite.)

Thanks for taking the time to set up the test again.  What a hassle!
