Fast LAN speed/slow WiFi speeds
I sent in a ticket to support on this but still haven't come up with a solution so I thought maybe some forum users might have an idea...
I've got the WNDR4300 with the latest firmware. I use an Arris cable modem (I have that set to bridged so it won't double up on the NAT). My internet speed is 200mbps and I get that on my desktop PC which is wire into the router. On WiFi, though, even when I'm right in front of the router, I can't get any speeds faster than a max of 35mbps, which seems really low. I've tested with an iphone 5, a laptop and a Kindle Fire HD and they all get about that speed (using the Ookla speed test).
I have tried the following:
- Nothing has caused the wifi to be any faster than 20-35mbps.
- Any other ideas out there as to what to try? Is there a setting I'm missing? Again, the internet speed coming through the router to my desktop is 200mbps it's just the WiFi that's much slower. I know I can't expect to get a full 200 but 20-30 seems pretty low, especially when I'm testing right in front of the router.
- Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Doing a factory reset on my router WNDR4300 with latest firmware solved the issue. Now I am able to get 89MBPS on 5g & 75MBPS on 2g. Thanks a lot.

im also having the same issue with my WNDR3400v3. but i think its a comcast issue becuase i used to have thier gateways that they provided and had the same issues with wired speeds being good but wifi being very slow. i had blast wich back then it was 50mbps and i got around 60mbps wired and around the 20smbps on wifi. they told me that thier gateways were crap and told me to buy my own modem and router. once i moved to a new apartment i got comcast and bought my own equipment i used to have the performance internet which was 25mbps. i was very happy with my router that i got 25mbps on wifi and on wired i get 30mbps. now i upgraded my service to blast which is 75mbps and i did a speedtest with wired and got 88mbps. but on wifi my highest is 29mbps. thats a huge difference is thier anything i can do to fix this issue.
this is the bug comcast has http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=176395&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0
- yourworstfearsAspirantI think it's a xfinity issue because I had this same problem with their gateways that they provide.

8Ohms What's the model and OS of the device you're having an issue? What's the model of the LAN/Wireless adapter being used and its driver version?
Can you post a screenshot of inSSIDer showing the 2.4Ghz environment? What's the distance between the C3000 and the client being used?

Same issue. LAN speeds out of WNDR4300 are stable at @30mbps download and 6-10 upload on Xfinity via their modem cabled to WNDR4300. Even after leaving only one wireless device hooked up (HP running windows 7), repositioning router, and doing all of the tweaks I've read in this thread, i can't get anything faster than 3mbpsD and 1mbpsU. This only started happening in the last month. Prior to that my wireless matched my LAN speeds. What gives?
- yourworstfearsAspirantWhich ISP do you have?

This is a Netgear router problem. I have Cox Digital Cable and i'm having the same problems as everyone else. I'm paying for 50mbps service and I get that through LAN but i'm getting between 2-6 mbps over WiFi. My firmware is 1.03.03 but their site says the latest version is 1.02.10. I have no interferance and i'm the only signal around.
- pdrupareliyaAspirantI have exactly the same issue. Got a 100mbps speed connection and get that on any device if connected by LAN with the router . But on wifi I get only 50 mbps on the 2.4 ghz . On the 5 ghz I get slightly better speeds (60-70) but that in turns makes the wifi signals drop with the extenders I have (also netgear). So the technician dialed the 5ghz . Still not getting above 60mbps from the wifi.

pdrupareliya What's the model number of your NETGEAR device?
2.4GHz is really prone to interference and that might be the reason why you're getting that speed.
Wired can't be the same as the wireless speed. These 2 are totally different connections and there are factors that needs to be considered when it comes to wireless.
- mohan5kAspirantI have the same issue. When connected to Arris modem? Any solutions pls let me knkw

mohan5k What's the exact model number of your device?
What's the firmware version installed?
All devices are affected?
What are the devices affected?
Kindly describe further on what you're experiencing so we can provide better response.

Wired connection directly to modem: 180 mbs (comcast)
Wired connection through router: 20 mbs
Wireless connection using router: 20 mbs
Same issue with all devices
Not a cable issue for the wired connection (tried several)
no interferences from other devices (and of course, this wouldn't explain the wired slow connection)
on latest firmware
did the 30-30-30 that briefly improved the WIRED connection only, but minutes later it reverted to 20 mbs
The router clearly seems to be a bottleneck, and it is not just a wifi issue. Any solutions short of getting a new router?

I'm consistently getting slower speeds through my wireless connection vice hardware. Hardwire directly into my modem I have 25Mbs download, yet wired I only get ~12Mbs. I've check and the router is stating it has the latest firmware (V1.0.1.14). Any suggestions?
I had this problem a while back and it just seemed to resolve itself, but it seems to be back. Of note, the wifi speed was down to less than 5MBs, but after a restart it jumped up to the now 12MBs.

If you can make sure that it's not an Ethernet cable problem then it's time to get a new router.
This matter should have been corrected by the firmware and reset.

Anything we can do short of purchasing a new router? My router began having these dreadful wifi speeds about 3 1/2 months into owning my netgear product. If these things really crap out that soon, that'd be a shame. I've done virtually everything recommended in this thread and am still experiencing speeds < half of my LAN speed. My LAN speed is fantastic and strong, but as soon as I hard wire or connect to my router wirelessly those speeds diminish. In fact, I get almost NO upload which is difficult because I produce music and tend to share it with people which is impossible with 0.1kbps upload speeds. I've resorted to transferring my songs onto my phone and uploading them via my phone's 4G network. I feel like I'm wasting money paying for internet that I don't get to enjoy because of a cheap product. I'm pretty financially strained and going out of my way to purchase a nicer router isn't realistic. I'm on the latest firmware version, have found unused wifi channels to set my wireless connections to, hard-reset my router, tried different cables and more. If this is how netgear products operate, I don't think I'll wanna buy them in the future.
- jrp1311AspirantHi folks. I'm having the same problem on my C3700. Ethernet speed is fast, wifi speed is a lot slower. If the issue is that it is not tested or 3 starred with Comcast, does anyone know of a wifi/modem combo that is and will work with Comcast?
- saneopinionInitiateGuys.. don't waste your time troubling shooting this... It's a router issue.. here is the solution... disable Wi-Fi on your modem .. buy a cheap $15-20$ router ..connect that to the modem via lan wire and use this new router to connect to wifi. It worked for me and another person on this forum
