Wireless network of XAVN2001 doesn't show up
I've properly connected my AV 200 adapter (XAV2001) with the wireless extender (XAVN2001), and am able to directly connect a PC via ethernet cable to the extender with good results.
I want to connect a second PC to the extender wirelessly. However, the XAVN2001's wireless network simply does not show up as an available wireless network on the PC (or any smartphone or tablet for that matter).
Windows, of course, does not support WPS, so attempting that option is out. How can I get the XAVN2001's wireless network to broadcast/appear? Any help would be highly appreciated. :)
BTW, and FWIW, the Powerline Utility has been useless since it simply tells me there is "o device in the network" -- this despite the fact I also have a Netgear WNR1000v2 router, and the Smart Wizard Router Manager at routerlogin.com has no problem recognizing the router (and the attached XAVN2001).

- Retired_MemberI could be wrong but from what I read I don't think you can connect to this wirelessly. It's made to extend a wired outlet to save you from running cat 5 You could try an AP at one end which would then give you several lan ports and wireless access.

No, it is indeed a wireless-N extender kit -- the XAVNB2001 -- specifically designed to create a wi-fi access point wherever one plugs in the extender unit. It comes with an XAV 2101 Nano Adapter to connect to the router, and an XAVN2001 wireless-N extender to plug in elsewhere and provide an additional wireless network. - Retired_MemberWhen I searched for info I only saw the xav2001 and didn't see the other model which is as you said. I would think you would have a setup like other netgear routers or Ap's. Can you see it on your routers attached device list? if so try IP and see if you can manage it.
- JasW1957AspirantI can see it on the router's attached device list, but I can't connect to its IP. It shouldn't even be necessary to try to connect that way, of course. The setup instructions suggest using WPS, and then simply go on to say: "If your wireless client does not have a WPS button, you need to access the user interface of your client device to manually enter the wireless settings to connect to the extender." As I mentioned above, I can't get into the XAVN2001 to retrieve the wireless settings because the Powerline Utility doesn't show the XAVN2001 (or my router or anything). And even if I were able to retrieve the settings, the XAVN2001 would still need to show up as an available network connection on the PC for me to input those settings. That's the problem. (Windows lets you add "hidden" wireless network connections, but that seems to be a rabbit hole. This is supposed to be "plug and play" -- it says as much on the box -- not "plug and flail"!)

No, it doesn't work -- it was one of the first things I tried. The Powerline Utility says "No device in the network." This seems incredible when the ethernet cable is connecting the extender directly to the PC (and, indeed, the PC can connect to the Internet through that ethernet connection to the extender).jmizoguchi wrote: Should see your SSID broadcast from this unit

Yes, I should see the SSID broadcasting, but I do not. The blue LED on the front of the unit above the wifi symbol is on, which I presume means wifi is broadcasting. But as I mentioned in the first post, the extender's network doesn't show up as an available wifi network on any device I own.
As I also mentioned, I can't check the wireless settings in the XAVN2001 because the Powerline Utility doesn't recognize it. The manual suggests the following:If You Do Not See All Your Devices with the Powerline Utility
If you click Refresh on the main screen of the Powerline Utility, and do not see all the devices you expect, it could be that a Powerline adapter . . . is set to use a different encryption key.
• Encryption keys are different. To fix this, you can do one of the following:
-Reset your Powerline adapters to their factory settings and default encryption key. Then set the encryption for all of your Powerline adapters.
-Connect your computer to each Powerline device and set up the network encryption key for one adapter at a time.
The thing is, I've never set a different encryption key, and in any event, the XAV2001 and the XAVN2001 are functioning together to provide at least wired Internet from the ethernet port on the XAVN2001, and would not be if one of them had a different encryption key. - jmizoguchiVirtuoso

I've already set the adapter and the extender up to see each other. That's why I'm able to connect to the Internet by connecting an ethernet cable directly from the extender to the PC. In other words, I have a regular powerline system working perfectly fine. It's the extender's additional wifi capability that I'm having a problem with. - JasW1957AspirantJust an update here to report some progress, although things have not been resolved 100% yet.
I had tried everything to get the Powerline Utility working, using the Windows XP Service Pack 2 compatibility settings recommended for Windows 7 in one of the Netgear support docs, trying other compatibility settings (I'm running Windows 8). I had already made sure I was running the most recent Windows Powerline Utility available in the download section. Still, I kept receiving the message "No device in the network."
Then looking at the download list again last night, I saw below the most recent "Windows Powerline Utility Version 2.0.0.14" a download labelled "Powerline Universal Utility Version 3.1.0.4." I figured I would try that, and lo and behold, suddenly there were my Powerline devices.
I was able to configure the XAVN2001, giving it a network name, putting it on the WPA2 protocol, and assigning it a password. I checked, and it shows up as an available network!
The downside, which I am working on: no device can connect to it. Does anyone have any suggestions for recommended wireless settings?
