R7000 - Time zone settings wrong after using Nighthawk android app
Why does my R7000 router adjust the timezone settings to the wrong time zone setting when using the Android app?
The router is set to the GMT +1 time zone: (GMT+01:00) Amsterdam, Berlin, Bern, Rome, Stockholm, Vienna.
When I connect with WiFi from my Samsung S10 phone with the Android Nighthawk app the timezone setting is adjusted to GMT -12: (GMT-12:00) International Date Line West, Eniwetok, Kwajalein.
Resetting the router to factory settings several times did not solve the problem. Also tried different firmware versions, without solution.
When I log in to the router from the phone (connect via anywhere access) via a VPN, the time zone remains correct.
Hope someone knows a solution.
Current firmware version: V1.0.11.110_10.2.100
Android app version: 2.8.0.1395
Sincerely,
Dinky
I've been running the 1.0.11.122 firmware for a few days now, which solved the problem with the timeserver!

Problem also occurs on a Samsung A5 phone and a Samsung S6 tablet.

Thank you for your response Christian,
Unfortunately, the 90 days of free support for this router has expired.

Hard to see how using a particular wifi client will cause the router to change its time.
I chip in simply because i have the same Samsung phone and have never seen anything like this when using the Android app.
If this is the Nighthawk App for Android, the version number looks wrong:

I have 2.8.5.1416 on my Samsung A5.

Did indeed receive the Android 2.8.5.1416 update last week.
Just tried it. Also with the 2.8.5.1416 version, the time zone settings change after connecting via wifi.

What are the NTP settings on the router?
- Advanced
- Administration
- NTP Settings
I cannot remember anyone reporting this behaviour before.

Same issue here. I try and try to set the time zone to Eastern and it defaults back to International Date Line West. It doesn't look like it's isolated so a fix would be appreciated.

I am having the same issue. I have tried every possible fix I can think of and nothing works.

F*cking THIS, PLEASE.

I'm furious about this. I'm tracking an active cyber attack on my house and all the times are wrong because of this FORCED wrong setting.
It is imossible to rest. It has been this way FOR MOTHS, and Netgear doesn't give a single f*ck about it.
It could be hackers. HOW WOULD WE KNOW?!

I found a solution that worked for me...your mileage may vary. I enabled "Location Services" for the browser I use to access my router settings webpage (also moved the slider for "Precise Location" to "on" in that Location Services menu.) I was then able to change my time zone and daylight saving time settings to the correct settings and they have STAYED correct so far! I hope this works for you...good luck!

A clarification: the process above was done on an iPad. Your access to Location Services for your browser might be a bit different depending on your device.

Changing of the Time Zone should normally work if using a laptop or PC connected via ethernet or wifi to the routers web page as well.

Thanks for details and desire to help!
Unfortunately, in my case this also doesn't work, same result: trying to save, processing, and still returns error about no internet connection to access NTP server, which is left default (and while internet is fine).
However, I found that a workaround for disabling internet at night - it could be done over Wireless Settings just with necessary adjustment for incorrect device time.- FURRYe38Guru - Experienced User
What browser are you using? Happens with different browsers?
What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
Has a factory reset and setup from scratch been performed since last FW update? Try this with the router disconnected from the ISP modem/ONT and change the NTP settings.
