Corrupt boot - Factory Reset not working

Hi! I have a the RND2000v2 and it will not load.

Using the most up to date version of RAIDar it tells me I have a Corrupt Boot. Following the manual I attempt to do do either a Factory Reset or an OS Reinstall, However when I perform the following to access the boot menu we get an issue.

Unplug the ReadyNAS as it will not turn off on its own. (or the power button)

Insert paperclip and press the "Reset" button on the back

Plug the ReadyNAS back in

Hit the power button

Wait for everything to illuminate (as per Step 4 of the Manual) ...Except it never does, no matter how long I hold just the rest button. It does not seem to go into the Boot menu

What happens iwhile holding the reset; The power button constantly flashes, and every 10 seconds or so the other (act, Disk1 and Disk 2) lights illuminate momentarily. I have tired to relase the reset button at this point in hopes it would stay in the boot menu, but they all turn off when I remove the paperclip from the reset button.

If I try to use the "Backup" button to navigate the menu of the Boot Option nothing happens.

No configuration of HDD seem to matter. I have tried, only 1 HDD in a bay at at time, both bays filled. and both bays empty.

Thanks in advance.

  • Awesome information; So even though my model sticker on the bottom of it says RND2000 v2. It appears (at least according to the link you provided) to actually be a V1, this may be the issue at hand. I'll download the manuals for the v1 and see where tha gets me.

Does RAIDar tell you "no disks" if you power up with no disks installed?

Also, if you have a Windows PC you should probably run the vendor disk diags (seatools for seagate, lifeguard for western digital),

  • Thanks for the reply. Yes it does say no disks when the bays are empty.

The disks are operational as tested, full sector scans return positive.

After doing more digging I see that the RAIDar shows that my device has no firmware installed. I have tried to update via the USB. I have turned he device on and off several time and eventually got to a "setup page" it sticks are initlizing disks. Screen shot to follow

Also can you confirm that you have the v2?: http://www.rnasguide.com/2012/01/09/how-to-tell-whether-i-have-a-duo-v1-or-duo-v2-or-nv-v1-or-nv-v2/

The v1 boot menu is completely different to the one for the v2.

A screenshot of RAIDar would be helpful but do note that that was written for newer models running 6.2.4 onwards.

If there was no firmware on the device then the system wouldn't boot as far as it got already.

Also, the USB Boot Recovery files for the v1 and v2 are different.
