NV+ Power Supply Failure
Apparent power supply failure in my Readynas NV+. System appears to power up then becomes unresponsive even to power button on front of machine. Smell coming from machine. Part#/Model#: RNV2-S4-R450. Serial No. (MAC) shows: 000DA2014E4. Phoned Tech and they said that this serial number is in a lot of known bad power supplies.
Questions:
-Is a power supply replacement available?
-If I cannot get a power supply, can I buy another NV+ and install my drives to recover the files?
-Is there any risk in loosing data if I pull my disks and put them in another NV+?
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

- viffer1AspirantMy NV+ power supply just died. I had the typical burning smell and I'm unable to power it on. I have a case open with Netgear support, however my NV+ does not have a serial number anywhere on it. There is nothing on the back or under it on the bottom. I can see where there is a field for the serial but there's nothing there. I am the original owner, bought it brand new back in '04 prior to Netgear acquiring Infrant. Any help would be great.
Thanks! - PlargAspirantYou should be able to order a power supply even without the readinas serial number. Your old power supply should have a part number on it. I purchased mine through netgear, but I was also found some for sale online. My NV+ is still going strong. Power supply failure topic reminds me to backup regularly.
- viffer1AspirantRight, I can definitely purchase one on my own but I'd like to see if there's any way to have it RMA'd and replaced by Netgear. I have an existing case open but they are asking for a serial number and I can't find one to give.
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredHave you ever downloaded the logs zip file from the unit?
- PapaBear1ApprenticeThey are again listed on Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-Spare-Power-Supply-Readynas/dp/B000W3X480/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1333562653&sr=8-1 - shidarinAspirantI also have an NV+ that has a PSU failure going on. It now gives a very strong burning smell, which gets stronger and stronger the longer the unit stays on, I suspect it won't last longer than 20 minutes now. Luckily, it failed during the day while I was sitting near it, so I caught it early.
I believe I'm covered under this service action:
http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10259
As my serial number falls within the range.
I called 888-NETGEAR, but the only options seem to be for pay by the hour support- did I do something wrong? How can I report the failed PSU over the phone?
I registered my ReadyNAS NV+ and then opened a support case (# 18434474 ) on the NETGEAR website, however despite my purchase date being in 2010, and the website saying my Warranty would still be valid, the only option I had was for Out Of Warranty Support Request, and the case hasn't been looked since I opened it 2 days ago.
What am I doing wrong? How can I qualify for a replacement PSU and get my NAS back up and running? Any help would be much appreciated, thanks guys!
EDIT: 20 minutes after posting this, NETGEAR support gave me a new phone number to call and said that my NV+ does indeed fall within the affected device range. Fingers crossed. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredYou should post your case number.
- emk1AspirantCan I ask a silly question? The serial number of my NV+ consists of alphanumeric, including an 'S' and 'R'. Hex won't accept this. How do I convert the string into decimal to see if it falls into the range of the service action?
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredIf you have an alphanumeric serial then I don't think it's in the range. When did you purchase the ReadyNAS? Was it purchased brand new on/after August 21, 2007?
- PapaBear1ApprenticeFor the units in the serial number range for the bad PSU, the serial number and the MAC Address are the same. In this case they are 0-9 and a-f with no upper case and no letter above f.
