NV+V3 Stuck in Resync?
My ReadyNas NV+ V3 notified me that
"A SATA reset has been performed on one or more of your disks that may have affected the RAID parity integrity. It is recommended that you perform a RAID volume resync..."
I started the resync and it first said that 2% complete, 44 hours to complete.
90 minutes later it said 2% complete, 140 hours to complete.
Now I can't get a response from RAIDAR, nor can I access it from windows Explorer via \\192.168.1.61
It's been about 7 hours since I started the Resync.
I've been doing this remotely. However, once I go into work tomorrow, assuming the NV+ still does not respond, what should my next step be?
Can I do a clean shutdown with the power button?
I have it on a UPS. If I unplug the UPS, will it do a clean shutdown?
TIA...

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredLooks like it has hung. One of your disks is probably bad.
Do you have a backup? - bhataTutorI have some of the files backed up.
I know which one is the bad drive.
How should I proceed? Remove the bad drive? Hot remove? Should I power down?
-bhata - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredWell seeing you have started a resync that depends on what the resync is doing.
You could try powering down, removing the bad disk and then powering on and seeing if it boots fine and you can access your data. - bhataTutorThought I'd finish out the post with what I found today...
My concern has been, if the NV+ was in the middle of a resync, would powering down screw up anything and make it unusable.
So I first attempted access to RAIDar and it still would not respond.
I then pulled out the bad drive and, after 3 minutes or so, I got an email of a "Hotplug disk event".
So it wasn't totally hung...
I then unplugged the UPS, hoping the NV+ would do a clean shutdown. But it didn't and the NV+ shut down when the UPS ran out.
I restored power, without the bad drive, and after about 5 minutes, all appears functional...
WHEW!!!
Now I just need the replacement drive from Western Digital...
-bhata - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredHow have you configured the NAS to work with the UPS? Do you have a USB cable connected between the UPS and the NAS? The NAS should be shutdown safely.
The proper way to test this is to connect the NAS power supply to a wall outlet and some other device to the UPS (which doesn't mind being unsafely shutdown) to drain the battery then unplug the power to the UPS.
The NAS should handle unsafe shutdowns gracefully in most cases but that may not always be the case. - bhataTutorYes I did have it configured to work with the UPS and, because of past experiences with power fails, that is why I thought to try this to force a clean shutdown.
However, the NV+ must have been partially stuck. Although it responded when I removed the bad hard drive, it apparently did not handle the UPS messages.
