Readynas Ultra 6 boot problem

Hi Everyone,

I have a Readynas Ultra 6.

Because of an power outage the Readynas won't boot anymore.

- the fan's are working.

- the display keeps showing 'readynas'

- i found the vga header, but the monitor says 'no cable connected'.

- I've replaced the memory.

- I've have i disk in the unit and is spinning up.

- I tried to restore factory by using a boot usb and the backup button.

- i pressed the reset button (on the back) at power on.

- I cannot access the bootmenu (display won't change from 'readynas')

Can someone please help what else i can do to fix the boot problem.

Greetings,

Rob

  • What do you see if you power down, remove the disk, and start up the NAS w/o it?

Also, when you are running w/o the disk, does RAIDar see the NAS?

      Hi Stephen B,

      Thanks for the quick response.

I tried without a disk and the same message appeared (Readynas).

I also tried to connect to the nas through my networ with RAIDar. Nothing was found.

      I tried both ethernet connectors.

Also what i notice is that the light at the ethernet connectors are not lighting up (datatransfer).

Nothing changed. display still shows "readynas".

Then something in the chassis has failed.

Did you run the memory diagnostic?

  • This could be a power supply issue.  The display will say "ReadyNAS" with just +5V available.  The drive spinning up and fans on indicate you have the main 12V.  But there is a secondary 12V and a 3.3V bus that could have an issue.  If you have a spare ATX power supply (or can borrow one from a computer), you can connect it externally to the NAS and see if that fixes it.  If the temparary supply doesn't have the necessary 3 4-pin Molex connectors, it shouldn't matter since you only have one drive currently installed.

      Hi Sandshark,

      Sorry for the late response.

      I tried the following:

From an old PC i removed the adaptor and connected it to the NAS.

the only connection i made was with the 24 pin connector.

So i did't  connect the HDD.

The fan for the case starts spinning and only on the display 'readynas'.

I left it running for about 5 minutes. Nothing changed.

I also changed the memory, but this also nothing changed.

Still only on the display 'readyNas'
