Access admin page from the internet.
Hello! I've just setup my new RN102 and have not had any major issues with it except for one. I want to be able to access the admin page from outside my network (from the internet). Using readyCLOUD, I am able to access my files and stuff, but I cannot access the admin page unless I am on the same network. I have tried looking around on the web but I have had little luck. I'm hoping all I need to do is port forward on my router, but I'm not sure what port to use. Any help would be appreciated!

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredCan you install ReadyNAS Remote on your client machine? You can use that to browse the web admin page remotely without needing to open any ports.
- xeltrosApprenticeYou can indeed forward the port 443TCP which is HTTPS and you should have access to your NAS interface. However it is not advised at all to expose admin pages to internet.
I haven't tried MDGM's technique but it seems way more secure to use this if this works as you don't directly expose your NAS to internet attacks. - Tomasz555Aspirant

I swear I tried this the day I got it, but it didn't work; but now it seems to be working just fine! It looks like I have to add https:// before the ip and port which I guess I wasn't doing before. Also I'm not too worried about security since I just use my NAS for dumping music and random crap. Thanks a bunch!mdgm wrote: Can you install ReadyNAS Remote on your client machine? Thanks for the reply
I gave up on that tool since this happened on 2 machines. I think it is because the VPN it installs conflicts with the one I have? It works fine initially, but after a while it fails to launch showing this error message. Simply uninstalling and reinstalling the software doesn't help; but uninstalling, clearing out all registry keys and program files, deleting the app data folder, deleting the vpn driver from sys32, and finally reinstalling fixes it. But then it eventually breaks again. =/
I heard somewhere that they are replacing Readynas remote with a yet to be released tool called "ReadyCLOUD". I have the Android app and it works fine for me, but it is limited in functionality. Any news when the Windows (and hopefully Linux!) versions might come out? - xeltrosApprenticeIf you are not concerned by security then I can't see any problem using port redirect.
when you only type the NAS address, default is to use http, not https. This means you use port 80TCP and not port 443TCP. I think in local the NAS does the redirection, but remotely if you redirect to a port that is closed...
I don't know for the netgear tool.
For readycloud I think it's the web portal that lets you manage the NAS and transfer files. As for it being the replacement of remote, I don't think of it like that. Remote integrates in the OS and provides a better experience IMO. Readycloud is there to let you browse your files when you can't have that experience.
I'd personally like to use readycloud but since I also use active directory and that those are mutually exclusive I'm stuck with it set to off. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredMake sure your admin password is not the default and try to make it a long one if possible with special characters in it. Perhaps add a few of the passwords you commonly remember together to make a longer one.

What Netgear seems to be doing is replacing the readynas remote with readycloud. They have all these services and are consolidating them into one. The android and iphone replacement app is already out but the PC version is apparently in the works. Or so I've been told
