Cannot Access Duo!! Case Number 17823755
Hi all,
I have an original RND and i cannot access it at all from any of my Macbooks.
It has been working fine doing time machine back ups etc.
I has an email that a resync was needed which i tried to do.
I also tried to access it via AFP but it is not showing at all.
I then tried to access it via Raidar (which is the latest) and that cant find it either.
The leds on the front are Blue - Static, Disk1 static, Disk 2 pulsing.
After looking around it seems it may be doing a sync, but i thought i should be able to use it normally while this was happening?
Trouble is, as i can access frontview either i dont know how long it has left and i need it for work!!
Any help much appreciated!

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredWhat do you see if you hover over the pulsing lights in RAIDar?
I would suggest you open a tech support (http://www.readynas.com/support) case and edit the thread title (i.e. subject of first post in this thread) to include your case number. - jasons6930AspirantHi,
I cant even get RAIDar to find it.
Its almost as if i dont even have one on the system! - jasons6930Aspirant

The problem is that its way out of warranty so i wont get tech support, which is why i was hoping someone here may be able to help!
Well, i have just opened a case and it appears it had a 3 year warranty so its still in...just. - jasons6930AspirantAAArrgghh!!!
As it turns out i had a failed disc in bay 2.
God knows why as it was working fine until it told me i had to resync.
So, upon instruction, i had removed the failed disc with the power off, switched back on again and all seemed to be fine as i could access the existing drive with frontview.
It has now popped up that drive 1 has failed also and data is almost certainly lost!!
How the hell does that happen?
Drives are Seagate Barracudas. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredIf you haven't already contact tech support again and see what they suggest.
Drives can and do fail at any time. That's one reason why backups of important data primarily stored on any device are important. - jasons6930AspirantJust as a quick update, it turns out it was actually drive 1 that had failed.
Thankfully, it is still under warranty.
However, i needed to run Seagate to establish the error code, but i cant as i am using a Macbook.
I purchased a caddy to put the dead drive in but every time i plug it in it says it cant initialize it.
I am guessing the reason for that is the drive is well and truly fried? - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredSo disk 2 was fine and booted fine in the NAS by itself? Suggest you backup your data ASAP if you haven't already.
Does sound like disk 1 is well and truly dead.
Use one of the codes from this page: http://www.seagate.com/staticfiles/support/seatools/seatools-test-codes.html
Use e.g. "6FD1A1AE". I wouldn't use the Apple code as the drive was from the NAS, not the Mac.'
Well you can only really confirm the disk is bad by putting it inside a PC and testing it using SeaTools that way, but your NAS hanging the way it did indicates you almost certainly have a bad disk. - jasons6930AspirantHi,
Thanks for that.
I have borrowed a PC laptop and i have installed Seatools and i an running the drive in the caddy with Seatools.
So far, the basic tests have passed the drive with no problems.
I am now running a long generic test without repairs and see what that brings up!
Not sure what else to do as Seagate wont replace the drive if this shows no problems.
Then again, using their software to test their drives?
Hmmm. - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserActually, they will replace it if you use one of the codes in mdgm's post. Though you do need to be sure the drive is bad.
Try also downloading Western Digital's Lifeguard - you can use it to see the SMART parameters. - jasons6930AspirantThanks ill look into that.
WRT te codes, yes they will replace it under warranty if it throws back a code.
The problem is, at the moment with the basic tests, its not finding anything.
I have started a long test so hopefully that might help.
