File system check 100% of last 24 hours
Hello.
I have an older Readynas X6/600/TERANAS system and I think it maybe have had a power outage happen when it was on.
It restarted with the checking file system and now its 100% complete according to RAIDAR software however its just slows 100% for like the last 24 hours and never finishes.
The power light is slowly blinking at the same speed as when it was checking the file system.
Is this thing stuck? Should I turn it off and turn it on again? Any idea what is going on with this?
Thanks.

- NhellieVirtuosoCheck your disks using disk diagnostic tools from drive manufacturers like Seatools and WD Lifeguard.
- Do I turn off the unit while its apparently stuck in the file system check process at 100% ?

Power button has absolutely no response not matter how long I hold it down.
My only option to turn it off it to hit the power switch behind the unit.- NhellieVirtuosoI believe it is safe to turn it off that way. I am not sure if these older units have a "skip volume check" options like the newer ones, you can probably try that one as well. Do you have a backup?

I turned it off and back on again. It came up to 100% File system check but still stuck.
I think I read somewhere that anything past RAIDiator Version 4.1.X can skip the file system by pressing the power button for 5 seconds as you turn it on.
What am I better off doing? Skipping the file system and going into the unit or checking the hard drives 1 by 1 with a drive utility?
Thanks- NhellieVirtuosoI'd do skip volume check first.

Absolutely, except I have tried to skip the volume check and it still won't start.
I hold down the power button as I'm turning it on for 5 seconds( I see all the LED light up in a long flash once) then the RAIDAR software shows it at 100% FS complete immediately however it still won't boot up.
I am now slowly going though each drive one by one and checking to see if there is one that is bad. This is a very slow process to run the extended test on each drive.
What do if I find one of the drives bad? Start up the NAS without that drive? Put in a brand new drive in place of that broken drive,etc...?
If a drive has fail, it still should start up with the remaining good drive and inform you that a drive has failed.
Thanks.- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredDepends which drive is bad (if one is bad). Were you using X-RAID or Flex-RAID?

I believe its X-RAID. Its like an expandable RAID-5. I checked on my other Readynas systems and they all show up as X-RAID.
"Configuration: X-RAID (Expandable RAID), 4 disks" and all my readynas raid system are setup in the same way except for different version of the firmware.
Its still too early to tell for sure but judging from the "short drive test", Drive #1 seems to have quickly failed both the short drive test and long drive test. Whereas all the other drives have at least passed the short drive test.
Drive#2 passed the short drive test and currently running the long drive test.
Drive #3 passed the short drive test and long drive test
Drive #4 passed the short drive test and long drive test
I maybe in 5 hours I will know if drive #2 has passed the long drive test and if it does it would mean that only drive #1 is bad which is the only WD "green" drive I have.
I have not had good luck with green drives in the past so I am kind of inclined to believe that its the offending drive.
If that is the only bad drive, what would be the recommended next step?
Thanks.
