No access to admin page after 6.9.3 update

I just updated the firmware on my RN31400 from 6.9.2 to 6.9.3 and now I cannot access the adim page through my browser. It is not a browswer cache problem, that has been cleared multiple times. When I attempt to log into the page through Raidar, the browser opens, shows the 'welcome' page, then flashes the admin page briefly with correct firmware number and then goes to 'connecting to 'Connecting to Ready NAS Admin Page', the cycle repeats and never conencts. I have read the suggestion about connecting to the Internet to access hotfixes, but my unit has addressing for my private network. Suggestions without risking data loss would be apprecriated.

Many thanks,

GWKJR

I have to give a big thank you to StephenB for his suggested resolution for my problem. After backing up all of my data, I used the OS reinstall option from the boot menu and left the Ready NAS connected to the Internet for about ten minutes as mgdm had suggested and the problem with accessing the admin page was fixed!

In the process of becoming more educated about my Ready NAS 314, I suddenly realized that if I had just tried the second ethernet port on the 314 which was still set to use DHCP, I would not have had to do the OS Reinstall, I could have simply plugged into my router for the required Internet connection.

Thank you to all that replied and offered suggestions to my problem which seems to be a common one unfortunately.

  • Hi, just made the update 6.9.3 myself this evening, and got stuck on the same error "cannot access the admin page " using Firefox 59.0.1.

Finally, i've launch Chrome and the admin page opened, so i wanted to re-checked with Firefox and added https:// before my RN102 IP, and at last Firefox begged for a security exception and opened the admin page.

    Hope this helps.

Thank you for your input WolfBlade, I have tried four different browsers, all the latest versions with the same ultimate results: the Ready NAS splash screen with the correct firmware version (6.9.3), a flash of the Admin Page and then the repeating progress bar for 'Connecting to Ready NAS Admin Page' which it never does.

If you use an ad blocker in the browsers, try disabling that.

Clearing the browser cache is also advised (though it seems unlikely to be needed with 4 different browsers, it's easy to try).

same problem. I have my settings set to firmware updates for "Long Term Support only"

of course for Netgear, long term support means Absolutely No Support when the firmware update fuxxors your box

Did you try rebooting the NAS?

Can you explain what you mean by this?

If your unit is using DHCP, then it should have access to the internet through your router (even though it is using local IP addresses).  Is that what you are using, or have you configured a static IP address in the NAS?

Also, did you set up firewall rules to block internet access in your router?

My NAS unit is using a static IP address for my network. The unit is currently connected to a switch in my private network not a router. Thank you for your questions.

      Regards

Is the switch connected to your router, or is the switch completely isolated from the internet?

When you configured the NAS with a static IP address, did you configure a DNS server?

If you are completely blocking internet access somehow, you might need to change that temporarily to get past your problem.  You'd do that by connecting the NAS ethernet so there is a path to the router, and then do an OS reinstall from the NAS boot menu.  That will change your network connection to use DHCP and your admin password back to password.
